clearance light rewire and headlight housing q's

I searched first but still have questions. After reading chestons how2 for rewiring the clearance lights I'm not sure what he means by marking a wire with a red pen and then doing something with that?
Isn't this just a matter of switching wires. Only one wire is used from the factory and that is the lower wattage wire. So if I desolder the one that's connected and solder the other wire to that connection I should be done, right?
Also, my headlight blew up in it's housing. After I pull the housing out, can water be used to flush out the glass and dust remains from the bulb that are in the housing? Or should I use compressed air?
Will my headlight need to be realigned after taking out the housing?
Thanks in advance.

I'm really not sure on the wiring part. Are you doing the parking lights?
But for the bulb blowing up in the housing, you might want to use a compressed air can or a very flexible vacuum hose. Don't use water to flush it out, you'll get that cloudy look afterwards.

Are you doing the parking lights? No, the lights next to the headlights. Thanks, I'll use compressed air.
