Specs for Rear Hub Nut installation

I am replacing the rear rotors and brake pads on my wife's 95' SE 5spd. Doesn't anyone know the specs for tightning the nut that holds the hub on? On my old cars you would tighten until there was just a little play but that doesn't seen to be the case with this car. Do you tighten to a certain torque? Also Does the nut come off normal(counter clockwise) or reverse(Clockwise)? I ask because its on tight an I don't want to make it tighter trying to remove it. Any help would be appriciated.

The Haynes manual says the range for torquing the lug nuts is 72 to 87 ft/lbs. The studs have a normal thread.
