question about hp...

perhaps this is a stupid question. i've slowly been learing things here and there so there are some incomplete thoughts. if a car is stated as having 190 hp and 205 torque...why are peoples dyno's showing way less? are those seperate readings? i'm sure i have a rough idea of things but on this i am confused. can anyone help? thanx

To kind of better explain it from what I know...
The 190HP is generated at the Flywheel(within the engine) And the Dynos's that you see of stock Maximas are generated at the wheels(at the wheels is what really matters). I think it has been refered as true hp......

Chris

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

ya, thas rite. power output to the wheels is less than the hp reported at the flywheel cuz it takes power to create rotational motion in the wheels. u'll notice this if u get aftermarket rims. i read up an article on wheel weights once and like, 2 wheels of the same diameter but different weights were dyno'd and the lighter wheel showed like, 5 extra hp.

thanx a lot guys...i believe i understand it now. i just needed someone to put it all together. so hp reported is what the engine generates but when people dyno their cars, they are measuring actual output from the wheel. plus more stuff, but i believe i get it. thanx again and add stuff if you want to share more stuff.

to calculate a rough estimate take about 20% off the flywheel hp on autos and 15% for the maunals
