Anyone else get high pitched squeek when lightly pressing brakes?

Does anyone else get a high pitched squeeky noise when they touch their brakes. I had my tires done yesterday and they said my breaks were fine. Then i went to a Midas and they said my brakes were good to. They said the previous owner may have gotten some cheap pads put on and possibly rode them hard , but its annoying as hell. I don't want to fork out 120 bucks for ceramic brake pads to keep them from squeeking.

I don't know why your brakes would be squeeking, but my b/f has a 4th gen and when we put brand new pads on it they were squeeking too. They make that blue goo that's called something like brake quiet or something that you put on the pads to keep them from squeeking, I would try that next time you change out your pads.... It's like a buck or two at your local pepgirls...

A big part of determining whether or not the pads will sqeek is in the break in processs. Your supposed to break them in right to make sure they wont sqeel later on.

If they are Midas pads, get rid of them. I had Midas pads before, and they are all terrible for Maximas. My pads been changed 3 times at Midas because of squeeling noises. I then gave up and spent the money for Nissan pads, and NO MORE SQUEELING. Nissan pads are well worth it, and their fairly inexpensive. They also seem to last longer too. I got about 30,000 miles out of them.

I am up to 75K on mine almost. Can't really complain about them so far.

Before you assume the squeaking is coming from your pads, rule out your rotors. How many miles do you have on your rotors, and when were they last turned. I was getting a high-pitched squeaking ONLY when I lightly hit the brakes, and mostly on the highway. Brought my car in to the dealer, and they said the rotors were "hazed", which basically means they had a film of brake dust, dirt on them. They used some brake-kleen stuff and told me to brake hard a few times to get the haze off and they've been fine since. They said mine were like that because I do all highway driving and I usually brake lightly. Just a suggestion - hope this helps. -Chad

Thanks for the suggestions. Well, i don't know if they are midas pads, its whatever pads were on it when i bought them. They could be cheap pads. How much are the nissan pads?

The car has 27,000 miles on it.

Maybe i will ask about the rotors and the haze.

thanks

Suggestion for you, go to the car parts store, and buy brake cleaner, antiseize or brake lube and disc brake quiet. Go home, jack up car, pull the wheels. Use brake cleaner thoroughly. Pull brake pads, make sure they're clean and dry, apply the disc brake quiet on the back of the pads. It will be a sticky gooey stuff that will absorb the vibration (squeel) and silence the brakes then let dry. Use the antiseize/brake lube onn the parts of the brake pad that clip it into place and where it slides. Put back together the car and it shall be squeek free.

Total amount of money, around $10-$15. Time, 30 minutes or so. Tools needed, jack, lug wrench, 14 mm wrench.

I get that and had it for 6 months now. Many aftermarket pads squeal. Everyone says that the stock Nissan brake pads are the best. Another big reason could be the rotors, if the surface is uneven, they need to be cut, but i don't reccomend you do it if the pads are already worn down somewhat. My front brake pads don't have much life left in them, i'm going to replace them and get the rotors re-surfaced at a shop, also make sure the shims are in good shape and use that blue goo..

MomzMax had the exact same shrill squeal you have. Cured it with 17" wheels...go figure.
