Another butchered 4th gen on EBay!

I didn't know Nissan sold two-tone interiors on the Max!?

Two-Tone interiors

My 95' GXE with Pebble Beige Metallic paint has two-tone interiors!!!
It's really annoying. The dash assembly is brown while the rest of the interior is tan. It just looks horrible.

JP - you have the right color combo. The EBay car has tan door panels with black handles, speaker grills, and door sills. The dash is black instead of brown. It looks to me like the car had a black interior and it was stolen and replaced with 1/2 of a tan interior.

Yup. Rebuild. Also, what's a 95/96 Bose HU doing in a 99 Max
If the dash wasn't black, you could at least cover the fact that it's a re-build. Other than that, it's probably a great car. Just funny looking colors.

The way the Bose front speaker covers are painted black looks kinda cool, though.

Definately a rebuild it has parts from the whole Max family. Look at that radio its from an Infiniti, the Driver seat looks twisted, shifter from a GXE, leather form a GLE and wood. They call it a GXE and from the outside its an SE, and 7,500 for 99 "Loaded" max is unbelieveable even with 89,000 miles!

Man, if I could see this car in person......and if it was a 5 spd....perfect car to pay cash for, and mod the hell out of without ever worrying about resale!!! Wow, if I saw it in person, and really KNEW what happened to it.....NADA wholesale on this car is $15,000.

Follow the link to the other thread, it is amusing!

Not true. 1997 SE's have the tweeter in the door also.

Ask airmattdog.

You guys picked up more than I did! I feel sorry for the person who buys this car; and you know there will be a buyer! I am convinced this car is a rebuilt theft recovery. I wish EBay would crack down on these frauds. I posted links to some other suspicious cars on this forum before. Some members sent email EBay outlining why the seller was a fraud and they did nothing.

One thing to note: "(reserve not met)". On eBay, this means the car can't be sold for $7,500. So, I'll be the reserve price isn't far from the book value. But DEFINITELY a suspect buy... I would never buy a salvage vehicle unless it was a definite bargain.

I can't understand how anyone can buy a car on eBay... I mean, without ever driving it?? Sure, a rare antique car is a different story. But Maxima's are plentiful. I would definitely not buy one from eBay, unless I could get to the seller locally and check it out first hand.

I bought my 99 SE off of ebay actually...I just requested pictures showing that ALL VIN numbers matched....that is a pretty good indicator that nothing major has happened. I have a bit of confidence in carfax, but you def. have to do your homework.....Oh, the reason to do it on ebay? How about $3500 back of WHOLESALE NADA and KBB? That did it for me! Mine actually turned out perfectly, clean one owner car.

Well, you took a chance and got lucky. Congrats.

I know a guy that bought a '97 Diamante on eBay that looked immacculate from the photos, but after careful examination it was later discovered that the car had a frame "adjustment"--correction from a previous accident. The car never tracked as well as it should have. And there's not much you can do about that kind of problem.

Only some 3rd gens were made with tan interiors and black dashboards..

hey... how about this max right here?

I buy and sell a lot of cars....I have been involved in 4 ebay vehicle purchases now. And I have a friend who is a dealer, and he buys a great number of cars there. I actually looked at some that he had bought, found out what I needed to watch for, helped in 3 transactions and then pulled the trigger on this one. So yes, I did take a chance, but it wasn't luck. It is called being smart....oh, I also bought the vehicle from a seller who had previously TAKEN BACK a car that he sold that would not pass emissions. Sellers who have something to hide don't do that.

I emailed the guy at both addresses, and no response. I need to email ebay and tell them that the car is a salvage.

The black one looked pretty sweet. A loaded SE manual for $8500...even with the 96 trunk and high miles! He sells lots of Maxes on ebay, this one may have cought him by surprise.

Of course you can be smart about the purchase, doing all the investigation possible. I'm definitely not calling you stupid. But you are still taking a chance when you've never seen the car in person. Granted, the odds against you drop even further when you are dealing with a seller you've already had a good experience with or witnessed a good experience with another buyer. And about taking back a car that wouldn't pass emissions, that's expected of the seller--but what of the whole hassle and expense in obtaining the car? I still say it is much safer to see the car first hand and have it tested before purchasing.

Auction houses are another story--dealers always get the good ones and rarely does a buyer find a gem. You usually get what you pay for.

I need to know if mine is pieced together!

I am trying to buy a '96 Maxima SE and when I used another VIN checker (not CarFax), their records stopped at October 2001. And for some reason they say it's a GLE even though it has the white gauges, spolier, and all other SE items! Is there anyone here that could check my VIN for me on CarFax?
