Rez Removal?

Yeah i had Midas make me a pipe yesterday to replace
my rez. The pipe extends from my main cat flange to
my muffler flange. The pipe is 2" in diameter
and was presure bent. The car sounds alot better but,
my track times last night were slower. Has anyone
else done this and had the same problem. Thanks

Come on guys give me some response. The exhaust resonator is what im talking about. One of my buddies has a 97SE and he took his off and said it helped him out. He has a y-pipe, could that be the reason that it didn't work for me. Somebody said that the RT cat would fix the problem. SH** i don't know thats why im asking.

Isn't the stock exhaust diameter 2.25" or 2.5"? Not sure, don't quote me on this. Putting in that 2" section may be causing some restriction.

2" diameter might be slightly smaller than stock pipe also, when you say pressure bend you mean with kinks in it or do you mean smooth mandrel bends?
Aside from the pipe were other track conditions different? Was it colder? Same tires? That kinda stuff. There are so many variables. One last thing; I think removing the resonator only helps a little, little bit in the top end. So maybe you weren't able to exploit the new pipe???? Good luck.

I'm pretty sure it is 2" but i could be wrong. The guy at Midas measured it and thats what they told me, but they aren't the brightest people in the world.

I think it was a little colder last night then the previous night, but shouldn't that help me. The only other difference was i just put my body kit on. Its possible that it could be slowing me down, God i hope not i love the look of my kit.

Would the size of the pipe make a 3 10th of a sec difference

When you blow in a coffe stirring straw vs. a regular straw, doesn't it make a difference? Even if it's '1/4 it's will probably make a difference. I'm not 100% sure, but it just seems logical

Have you ever looked at the in and out pipe on a factory rez. The in pipe is ok its about 2" to 2.5", but he out pipe is crushed down. Its proably only 1" to 1.25", now if i have changed that just 2" it should have made an increase not a decrease. The real question is does that car need the back pressure from the rez or not

It's hard to say; some back pressure is required to keep the exhaust gas at a constant velocity. I don't know much about exhaust systems but everything I've read would suggest that the Max doesn't benefit from exhaust mods other than the Ypipe.
Aside from that, considering your track times - yes cold air will help with the intake but, it's possible that it was cold enough to prevent your tires from getting maximum traction. Did you have a lot of wheel spin? More than the previous time at the track? DId you have more gas in your tank? Again, I've got to say that there are soooo many variables. Good luck with your quest for more power. Tonight at the track I learned that my performane tires on my 17X7 slip more than the tires on my factory 15's. Damn. My best 1/4 was a 15.30 That is slower than before and it's attributable to tire spin. I spun from 1st to 2nd and layed a mad strip from 2nd to 3rd. That is unusual for my car.
