Question re: Automatic Temperature Control

98 Maxima SE: I have what is probably a stupid question about the auto temp control. Is there any way to set the temp below 65 degrees so you can get the A/C to come on when its like springtime weather around 60 or so? Its ticking me off, and I'm guessing that's just the retarded way they made it and I'll have to live with it.

Thanks

I have never heard of that being done, but you never know.

I know the AC is technically "on" at any temp but I want to be able to increase the level of cold air coming into the cabin, which the sensor won't let me do when its around 60 outside. Is there is a way to change the computer settings for the temp control?

Just set the temp on 65 and then manually turn the fan on full blast, it should work that way.

Exactly. Just switch it manual mode. The temperature of the air
coming out of the a/c vents should be constant. A/C checkup/recharg every year is a good idea. My A/C blows at about 33 degrees F. If
you can't get that cold with a temp sensor in the air ducts and the system on full then you have a problem.

Again though, in any case, the temperature of the air coming out will be constant, you just alter the volume of air being moved by the system. So there's no need to reprogram the computer, just turn it on for manual mode.

And whatever you do, don't try to use ECON mode to cool the car. That's strictly for the heater cycles and should only be engaged when you want to warm the interior. It is not the analog to the
MAX A/C - MIN A/C buttons found in many cars. Read your owners
manual.

yeah like the others said, hit the auto button. but if its 60 out and you want cold air in the car anyway (sounds like you want air to be in the car colder than 65), why not just open the windows/sunroof and let the naturally cooled air into the car without having to waste the gas running the car in "auto" mode with the a/c compressor on?
