New here (kinda)

Hey everybody!
Been registered as Maxkid on here for quite a while, before i got my dsm i was quite into maximas. I now own an eclipse (see sig) that i love. Current mods include clear bumper lights, polk components, cerwin vega 6X9's. Future mods to come- new BOV on a hard upper intercooler pipe, manual boost controller @15 psi, K&N filter charger, boost guage, and coilovers. Anyway, my mom owns a 99 max se. She wants me to do some stuff to it for her. Right now it's completely stock. First off, when buying a CAI, (don't know much about these b/c they are pointless for my car) do you need the bypass valve? Also, is there still somebody that makes the tail lights w/ the clear bottoms? Thanks for the help. I'm trying to get my name changed to -Boost_Krazy-, so that's probly what you will see me around here as.
Thanks,
bk

check out custommaxima, com for the tails and if they don't have them, you can always do it yourself and save a few bucks maximadriver.com in the how2 section

You're mom wants a modded car?!?

Anyways there are 3 CAIs to look into: Cattman, Place Racing, and WarpSpeed Performance. The Place Racing is the nicest from what I've heard. The WSP one is practically the same thing but $40 less, and the Cattman I don't know enough about to comment on. The bypass valve is not at all necessary on the Maxima, as only one has had hydrolock (when water gets into your engine), and that was because he was driving through very high (2ft+ water). However some people feel it is worth the extra $55 to ensure protection, so its really your choice. For the tails Conrad has it down. www.CustomMaxima still sells them I think, and a few other .Org members as well if you search around. But if you want to save the $150+ you can do it yourself with a heatgun, just beware it is very easy to break and many people have done so. BTW I just realized you're actually younger than me! (Born 8/26/85)

Yeah mom is young at heart lol.. well shes only 35. Anyway, she's seen a few nice lookin maximas around here, and what i've shown her. And she wants hers. She's talkin about the stillen lip/sideskirts/rear valance, clear corners all around, dropped about 2 inches, some nice rims, etc etc. I love the car but it's an auto :{ How much do those CAI's run? Also, are the supercharger kits still like 4 grand? And yeah, i'm only 16. I'm one of the youngest on my dsm board

CAIs run from $160 (WSP) to $210 (Place Racing & Cattman). The Stillen Superchargers list for $4000, you can buy them for $3100-$3300. They run about $4000 installed.

Why is that rice? Almost all of us have our cars dropped, clear corners, nice rims, and if we have money for it, the stillen kit. That is not rice to me, depending on the rims, the Maxima looks really nice like that.

Yes but look at what else people have. You for example. You are a 5spd with PR CAI & ACT clutch. That's something to back your stuff up. If you just had clears, rims, body kit and a lowered car do you not think that would be rice? Not a single performance mod?

i dunno, i could consider some of those as performance mods, lowering the car definitely improves performance of handling, rims (if wider) can increase grip and control, body kit (slightly) can increase aerodynamics, and clears...well what can i say
anyway its a matter of perspective

Depends, for a while medicsonic (also an auto) was just lowered, 17" 2k rims, and body kit, and he had no performance mods. When I saw his car I thought it was a nice car. Rice didn't even pop into my head. Now when you start getting into Neons and windshield wahser LED's 6" exhuast tip, then you start crossing the border. But the stuff his mom wants is just the normal stuff to make the car look and even handle better.

Didn't we just have a convo on how NOT to call other people mods "ricey" or make fun of 'em just 'cause you might not have the same taste. Come on guys. Everyone have different tastes. Besides, that is not ricey. It's the usual stuff most of you guys do to your Max's.

True but saying "dropped about two inches" as referring to the suspension?

True but we're just talking about "nice" rims (which granted we all like but there's not performance factor in them)

Not a chance.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be harsh I mean common she's old enough to be my mom! But the stuff she wants is really all cosmetic and there's nothing wrong with that... when my mom sees a VW Beetle she says it's "cute" and a Ferrari is "too boxy". She like the way it looks, not the way it drives. Get my drift?

Oh and Maximariven and RedMax95 you guys are right it's all about perspective/taste. Just sharing my view and if you don't like it drop it.

oh i know, i just like showing another side of a story, i doubt his mom has a clue that the drop will help the handling, its just perspective

Ok, this is the name i will be on as. I didn't like that other one. My bday is 10/13/85.. i don't know how that got messed up? I probly put somethin random in there when i registered the first time. Anyway, about the lowering.. i just said dropped meaning lowering.. sorry. And my mom didnt want to lower it in the first place. When i told her that doing that (along w/ some other susp. mods) her car would handle better. And i don't consider it rice. She's not exactly going for the sleeper look How much do the stock se rims weigh?

If you think she's old!?!

Then I'm really old. Not going to say how old, but let's just say I'm a few years older than his mom. I've just had my Y pipe and B pipe installed. Got Stillen intake. I'm dropped on Eibachs and waiting on my KYBs. I don't have much in the way of cosmetic mods yet, but it's all in what you like
