your CV joints. go and check to see if you have any weird fluids on your axles and check the boots.

It may not be strut bearings or CV joints. . .

See my thread:

Sound familiar?

It could be any of the problems mentioned above. You can use the stethoscope trick to more closely pin-point the problem. Have a buddy turn the wheel for you while you listen at the top of the strut housing with the scope. If the nose comes from there it's the strut bearings. Repeat this process with the scope by the boots. This should help you narrow down the problem.

If you're asking me, this noise just started 2 days ago & yep, I've still got it. (also happens at slow speeds, like yours, especially if turning the wheel suddenly) Oh well. . .

Nah, not gonna bring it in for this & get raped by Nissan. I'll figure it out eventually. The thing is, it's such a consistent, identifiable, mechanical type noise (relay, vacuum diaphragm, etc.) that I'm sure if I could get a trained Nissan tech. to hear it, (or even some of the more technical people on this board) they would be able to pinpoint what it is immediately, no fuss, no muss.

But try asking for free help like that at the 'stealership - Hah! They'd probably sooner spit in your face than pull one of their techs off a job for 30 seconds to help a do-it-yourselfer identify a noise. They'd rather bill me for an hour of diagnosis that would really take under a minute, I'm sure.

(Ok, they're there to make $, but think of how much more likely I would be to buy another Nissan in the future if I got that kind of assistance - that's called operating a business w/ a sense of "the big picture.")

On a different note. . .

-got bigger fish to fry for now: suspension just developed a new noise 3 weeks after I did the install, so I have to chase that down before I can get my alignment done.

(Been running crappy old tires, so no worry about chewing them up w/ a bad alignment all this time - I just wanted to give the suspension ample time to "settle" b4 getting the alignment done).
