A lot of people do not recoomend using harsher cleaners because they can damage the rim. Most people say just use the soap, water and a brush to get it off and they will look better adn last longer.

Yea, id recommend not to use the harsh rim cleaners, the stuff has taken off almost all of the paint on my center caps and those things are $28 ea from the dealer... maybe ill try repainting them...

Paint them, I did, don't buy them. The price is ridiculous. I used the Duplicolor steel wheel paint mentioned here:

It matched very well.

Another vote for ARMOR ALLS WHEEL AND TIRE CLEANER

This stuff does wonders. Before i used to scrub my rims. This stuff you just put on, let sit for a minute and you can just rinse off, i mean it just comes off soooooo easily, for the tiny parts that don't come off with water, you can just run your finger over it.

No reason for anything else, just don't get this confused with Tire Shine, that won't clean anything.

hope this helps

DO NOT use any product with silicone in it on your tires or wheels. I don't know if Armorall's wheel cleaner has silicone, but I bet it does (because silicone makes things shiny.) Silicone will get on your rotors and then embed in your pads. Silicone has incredible heat resistance and you will very quickly ruin your pads and rotors if you get silicone on them. Use soap and water.

in all honesty, i clean cars every summer at a golf course. the easiest and safest thing to clean your rims with is just a sponge with a half dollar sized drop of soap and water. that is all you will need, and they end up looking great.

Re: what to clean rims with?

has anyone tried WheelWax? It buffs up my rims pretty well, but I believe every word of that whole ruining my rotors/brake pads thing, sorta sucks, hope wheelwax doesnt have any of that silicone, been using it for a few months now on brand new wheels.

I use the car wash soap left in the bucket after I wash the car. If there really dirty or if I need to get the old tire shine off, then the Simple Green comes out.

Best stuff to clean your wheels and protect them is Zymol Wheel Care Kit it runs about 30 bucks, and comes with a safe wheel cleaner gel spray and a horsehair brush so that you don't scratch the wheels, then it has a zymol wheel coat, that you spray on and let dry then buff lightly,

I detail cars and have for 5-6 years now, and this is the best product on the market, Zymol Website Also if you have a dark colored car, invest in the carbon wax, for light colored cars try the creame wax, and if you have the energy to do some tuff work, but remove all swirls in your paint use the HD-Cleanse before the wax. The wax is wonderful and easy to use and work with, i wax my car about every 2-3 weeks and this is all I will use now.

Here's a good picture of how good the wax is
