Question about my engine checklight troubles
Question about my engine checklight troubles
Here is the deal: My engine check light came on about a week ago. I pulled the codes and it was the knock sensor and the intake air temp sensor. So, I have been driving the car for this whole week like I normally do and all of a sudden today the light turned itself off. I checked to make sure the bulb wasn't out by just turning on the ignition and all the check lights came on like normal. What happened?
I thought that the light would stay on until the sensors were fixed and the computer was reset....Does this mean the problems somehow corrected themselves? Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? Thanx.

You should not be complaining. You are actually pretty lucky, because your CEL went off due to the ECM not detecting the error condition after a certain number of start cycles. The sensors themselves may occasionally give an abberant reading, and if it happens twice in a row, this sets off the CEL. However, if the sensors continue to operate normally (within specs), the CEL will turn off after 20, 40, or 200 start cycles. The numbers may be off, but I don't have the FSM in front of me right now.
So, you are one of the lucky ones. My CEL lit up and stayed on, until I changed my front O2 sensor (LH). You have nothing to worry about now, except if the CEL comes back on again. If it does, and it stays on, then I would look into changing the sensors. If it stays off, just keep driving.
