cost to repaint car?

I'm thinking about repainting my Maxima. It has a some dents and scratches, and it's really beginning to bother me.

Just curious, but about how much does a full car repaint cost? The Maxima is my daily driver, so I dont wanna put too much money into this.

Thanks,
-Brian.

i was wondering the same myself. my only real problem areas are the front and rear bumpers. they both have these almost cracks in them. not chipping or anything but there are lines in the middle of the bumper. i was told by a body shop guy that it looks like it was at one time repainted and perhaps something wasn't added to allow the paint to flex better? i don't know too much about what goes in paint or anything. but anyways...has anyone else had this problem? i have a pearl white 95 gxe. so hopefully this summer i'll be able to get it done.

Yeah, I believe they call it flex. It allows the paint to flex when the bumper flexes, preventing cracks.

While on the subject, what about a color change? I guess at this point, 96 Maxima SE with 100k+ miles, I'm not really concerned with resale as I will probably drive this car into the ground, but how does it affect resale values anyway?

Thanks,
-Brian.

A full paint job including door jambs, engine bay, all crevices etc (your can will completely change color) costs between $3000 and $4000. If you just want to repaint the outside (assuming you keep the car the same color), it will run between $1400 and $2000.

Depends on body shop pricing policies, and which company they are getting the paint, Chromalusion, which is a product of Dupont, but there are other companies out there like House of Kolors w/ Chameleon Kolors.
There are alot of variables, but if you have the skill and patience, you can repaint your car for about $1000, and know the job was done right.
There is one blue color, a Ferrari Blue w/ real gold flakes in it. I've seen one pint costing $2000.

way too much

i would never pay that much for a paint job...i see a lot of people in my area doing paint jobs for between 400 to 1,000 dollars and my only concern is how long it will last...places i've gone this cheap, the job looks real good in beginning but i'm worried that since it's so cheap, it might mess up faster....well, if i do decide, i'll definitely hit up one of these spots....

it takes about 2.5 gallons of paint to paint our cars - and each gallon costs about 400 (OEM paint)

if u spend 400 for a paint job you will be very sorry

What if you can get a hook up on paint? About how much to you guys think that a shop whould charge to prep and paint it if you supply your own paint?

My friend works for DuPont and can get me paint at cost.

Damn I forgot my paint may have lead in it. . . Yeah I forgot about the other fees added, although $1000 + ~$250 for paint isn't that bad if that is the upper limit. . . I may have to look into this as my car needs some help in this department.

any car 1990+ doesn't have lead in it, but do contain other chemicals identified as hazardous by DEP/EPA. I found out the hard way.

Labor costs vary, as do paintings methods(time), skill of the technician, and work load around the shop.
Avoid cheaping out on a paint job, but also find a reputable body shop, who have experience w/ show cars even, and not some shclot(sp) house.

really it depends on who you know and where your located. a $1000 paint job may be just as good as someones $2000 paint job somewhere else. plus you always have to rememeber you get what you pay for. as someone mentioned unless you pay top dollar for a paint job it wont be near as good as oem. but if your max is gettin up in the years and miles any new paint could be better than what ya got. just my thougths

"orange peel" is pretty easy to replicate like on OE paint jobs.

I repainted my entire car in gloss black w/ PPG Diamond Hard Clear coat, and my paint looks 100X better than OE.

You heard of what you get is what you pay for? Well I can you that cheap paint job might look good in the beginning, but it won't last. I seen cars around my school that seem to got this cheap paint job. One look you can already tell it's not of high quality. You will regret it I can tell you right now if you decide to go to one of these bargain paint shop.

If painting costs so much, then maybe I will leave it the way it is. The Maxima isn't worth so much anymore, so I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost.

The car right now is Forest Green, that really dark green that looks almost black. I'm wondering if I should just paint the exterior black, and leave all those crevices and such the way it is.

Thanks for the replies and comments.
