Its a rumor I've heard tossed around but I don't think anyone outside of the loop at nissan knows for sure.

i heard that nissan was going to build a full size truck and put a v8 in that then give the maxima the option to be v8 or v6 kindof like the altima with the 4 cyl or v6.... but its not for sure

i think they should be all wheel drive, that way they'd be better in the winter time. the only thing i wish nissan would change is the back ends of their new models. i hate the license plate in the middle of the trunk! they make the whole car look awesome except the rear where it seems to almost emphasize your plates. i think 4th generations ends look so much better because it says maxima right in the center and the license plate is below. but that has nothing to do with this thread so i'm sorry. ok bye

Nissan has already planned to go to an "ALL" Rear Wheel Drive car line up. the new Q45(not called that) is going to be rear wheel drive. it will be the first Japanese rear wheel drive sedan.

What do you call Lexus cars then? All of them are RWD (xept ES which is Camry). I think Nissan is a little late with first Japanese v8 RWD car for at least 12 years.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a V8 Maxima in the near future, as to keep up with or exceed the competition, it almost becomes a necessity.

I heard that it was a hybrid automobile that would use the Moller Hydrofoil Engines that run on Rocket Fuel Boosters and have secondary photon plasma drives for additional get up and go! Would ride on a cushion of air 12 inches off the ground or go lightspeed at infinite heights when leaving the solar system temporarily was desired.

It will be capable of responding to thought commands and smell beautiful women ala "A Boy and his Dog" within a range of one-half light year.

It would be piloted by Blade Runner Replicants that had extended life cycles and cryogenic sex pods for you and your preferred mates to enjoy until you ask them to leave.

Furthermore, its time warp capabilities will enable you to go on dates with Eve, Cleopatra, Bridget Bardot, Tuesday Weld, Lady Godiva, Sharon Tate, Barbarella, Venus de Milo, Grace Kelly, Natalie Wood, Anne Margaret, Dita Von Teese, Tish Van De Vere and Kim Kovak to name a few.

Oh wait, That is not the new Maxima Nissan is building, but my own private dream!

Sorry,

Actually Toyota offered manual transmission in its mini van I dont kno what it was called in North America (Toyota Van I think) but its called Toyota LiteAce in the asian market and also they had manual transmission in the full size HiAce vans (not available in North America). Nobody here wants to shift their own gears!!

Well even when we completely ignore the fact that MANY Japanese car companies have been making RWD sedans for 10+ years now... The Q45 itself ever since it came out (in 1993?) has been RWD. So how exactly is a "all new" Q45 sedan going to be the first RWD japanese sedan, when the Q45 has been RWD for nearly 10 years now, and not to mention the countless other japanese sedans that use the same setup.

This will not be happening either unless you are using the term "similar" very loosely. The G35 is the infiniti twin of the Altima. As if there isn't already enough of an identity crisis between the Altima and Maxima as is, putting them on the same chassis would only make their market-share clashing even worse.
Furthermore why would is "use the same engine" as the G35? As of right now all G35s, V6 Altimas, and Maximas already share 99% identical motors. So what would be so ground breaking about having the maxima use the same motor, yet again?

Anyhow, I'm fairly confident when I say that the new Maxima will be a cheapened version of the M45 . Expect pricing to start in the very low 30s, RWD, V8 for sure, possibly V6 available as a discount if they want to keep the price more dynamic, frame will be much closer to the Q45 frame than the Altima's.

Volkswagon has made vans that offered a manual tranny released in the U.S. The VW Microbus offered a manual tranny for years (the 80's models looked a lot more like today's mini-vans, instead of the 60's "hippy-mobils"). I think VW is bringing a re-designed Microbus back to market, does anyone know when or if it will be offered with a manual tranny?

Oooooo, can't wait for a 'v8 maxima' using a g35 platform

Does it matter that the g35 platform is different from the Altima's platform?

Does it matter that the new Maxima will be built in Smyrna where they also build FWD Altimas which only has a V6 engine on the high-end, no V8?

The plot thickens!!! What will the new 2004 Maxima have?
