Okay I need to install some new brake pads on my 99 maxima and was wondering what you guys suggest, and how hard is it? Ive never installed pads before but there is always a time to start, any suggestions would be great.. also I got into a little bit of an accident, I slammed into a crub at 30mph which was fixed but at 70+mph she feels a little lose and I have some vibration. I belive this is caused by a damaged bearing and was wondering how much one would cost? I searched and someone said $50 for the front but that doesn't seem right, or is it, also how hard is it to replace them? Okay im sure one of you is asking yourself why doesn't he just take his car to the shop, well its a lease and don't feel like spending anymore money on this car b/c it has been nothing but problems for me .. thanks

Get the Haynes manual. It has excellent coverage of this repair, better even than the factory service manual. You may buy this book at large bookstores (Barnes & Noble, BookStar, Borders) or at auto parts stores (AutoZone, etc.). You may also find it on the shelf at your local public library.

Replacing brake pads is something the home mechanic can do. It's a good way to save money and learn more about how your car works. As you gain confidence in your own "wrenching" abilities you can work your way up to bigger repair jobs. After a while you will find that doing your own service is easy and fun. You may even find yourself saying "Wow, they charge $xxx for this and I just did it myself in less than an hour!"

Some Nissan owners insist that non-factory brake parts will result in noisy brakes. However, I have had good results with name-brand aftermarket parts (Raybestos, etc.). I recommend using the Blue Goo anti-squeal compound. Some brands of brake pads come with a tube of anti-squeal right in the box.
