if i was you, 1st try poishing out the valve cover with some aluminum polish(Mothers Mag/Aluminum Polish) If that don cut it try Wet sanding the cover:
1) 400 gritt
2) 600 gritt
3) 800 gritt
4) 1,500 gritt
then throw down a few coats of the Mothers polish and you should be all set. My engine lookss like a mirror and i also chromed out all A/C lines and bolts around the inside of the engine bay. Good luck! If you want a pic e-mail me and i will send you one.

What you talking about are polishing ->
There are some differences between polishing and chrome. I won't get into it since I'm no expert. I just know you can't chrome the valve cover and intake manifold. You have to dip the entire valve cover into some sort of chemical to chrome. The bottom side of the Maxima valve cover has a sheet metal riveted. You can't get all the chemical used to chrome the valve cover out. You don't want those stuff end up in your engine. Honda valve cover are plain in the back so chrome will work. You don't want to chrome the intake manifold because it gets too hot and the chrome will start to peel and crack. You could however polish both pieces to a very high gloss. This involve lots of wet sanding and finishing up with polishing compound. Here's a pic of my valve cover. I'm getting the intake manifold done in the next couple months.

I've done one myself and I got one polished by a pro. Took me around 8 hours and still couldn't get it to look as nice as the pro one. My advice. Spent the money to get it polish by a pro and save your sweat and tears for easier mods =)

Quick How2
Ok, first unplug the battery. Remove the spark plug cover and take out the three spark plug wires. (Held in by 2 screws each) Go get a ratchet with extension and 10mm socket. Take off the 10 bolts around the valve cover and make sure you dont lose the washers that are attached to them. Take the valve cover off and remove the rubber gasket from it. (You will reuse this.) Now clean the valve cover. Sand it down with 60, 120, 200, 400, and 600 in that order and then you can even get some 800, steel wool or some micron paper if you want. Now go get two 5" buffing pads that attach to a bench grinder and some stage one and three polishing compound. I got my pads and compound at Lowes and we attached the pads to a drill so we didn't have to hold the cover up to our bench grinder. I used stage 1 heavy duty polish on one pad and then stage three polish on the other pad. Polish the cover with heavy duty compound and then use stage three compound. Take a rag and wipe down the valve cover. You should now be able to see yourself in it
Reattach the way you took it off but in reverse order. Don't forget the rubber gasket. (Make sure it's on straight) Screw down all the bolts tightly, reattach the spark plug wires and reattach the spark plug cover. Thats how I did it. It takes awhile to do but I think its worth it.

The Red cover I painted my self with some hobby paint. The shinny piece under the red cover is the valve cover aka rocker cover. I had to polished by a professional.

Hey 1MAX2NV, are you talking about your red-painted cover, or the polished part? I had posted earlier about wanting to paint mine in black or red like yours and the Skyline's. Yours looks pretty tight!
