Get another car, some jumper cables and see if it'll crank ... save you the hassle of taking it to the shop (not to mention $$$).

Mixwell, definitely take pocketrocket's advise and try jumping the car. If it works, it could just be that the battery was left on too long (like you left a door slightly open or something) or the alternator is dead. They only way to test if it is the alternator is to jump-start the car, let it run for 20 minutes or so (provided you have enough gas), then cut it off and try re-starting. If the car starts, you just left a light on (or door open). If it doesn't, you need a new battery or alternator.
That seems like a little high for a battery. A generic one would be around $60+ (I'm thinking DieHard) and an OEM or Optima is $110+ I think.

my '95 did something similar when i first got it. it just died out and would not start back up for anything; wouldn't even turn over. the strange thing is, the lights and stuff still worked just fine!! after about 15 mins, it cranked and hasn't done it since.

Hmmm ... I haven't studied the 4th gen wiring but I'm guessing you might have a main fusible link that might have blown? I'd actually check my car coz I'm surious but storm blew in to Michigan and I've covered my car up and it's wet and (I've run out of excuses) ...
If you hook up another battery using jumper cables and nothing works including room lamp (please make sure you slide the switch to ON), then check your fusible links, it's the black box on the driver side of the engine compartment, has a label on it so it shouldn't be too difficult to narrow it down.
Good luck, tell us if you find what's wrong.

if you have nothing coming on when you have the jumpers on and the key on, you have a connection problem. check the fusible links, and make sure your ground wire on the battery is tight and solidly connected. you should definitely have power with the jumper cables on.
good luck!!
