Differentials Question
Hi
I have searched around on the org (I always search before posting
).
The torque steer on my car is really bad. I find it hard to keep it going in a straight line! I would like to get a limited slip differential of some kind. I have only seen three types:
1. Quaife
2. Nissan VLSD
3. Phantogrip
The problem is, for
1. Quaife is VERY VERY expensive - almost $1400 (more expensive than used tranny) and it's only available from one source.
2. Nissan VLSD - not sure how to go about doing this. Only certain models (Canadian SE and I30) have these. Does anyone know if the Automatic VLSD would fit into the Manual tranny? I have also heard that the older Altimas (93+ GLE) share the same auto tranny with the Max and with VLSD. Also need to change passenger side drive shaft (not a big deal)
3. Some opinions say phanto is junk.
I really would like a Quaife but find it so hard to justify that price! I30s with Manual transmissions are very rare. Could I buy the I30t differential and put it in my 5 speed and just change drive shaft? What about 5th gen trannies? Would a 5sp diff or whole tranny fit into my 4th gen?
Are there any options or opinions about this?
Thanks
Nigel

I know the VLSD from these are only 70/30 rather than 50/50 but that should be good enough for me!

I misread the following article:
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articl...3-96altima.htm
Sorry! But it makes me wonder why the automatic and Manual drive shaft on the passenger side are different and the US 5sp and I30t are also different. Could they be the same differential? Hmmmmm! If anyone can give me a VIN number for an automatic maxima and an I30t with the 5sp I could check it out.
