How long do Porterfield Brake Pads Last?

Just wondering...how long do the street Porterfield brake pads last? These pads don't have the wear indicator, so you have to check them manually for wear. Has anyone gone thru a set yet? I've had these on for a while and have been very pleased so far. They are "dusting" pretty heavily now, so I'm getting a little paranoid! Any thoughts?

My old car (now my Mom's) has had porterfields on for about 25-30k miles, and they don't even look half worn.

We do a lot of highway driving though.

How many miles you et out of them depends on the type of driving. Normal everyday driving is going to get a much longer life than people on here who do AutoX and eat through them like sponges.

I've burned through a front set in one weekend on the track before. I've had the rears on for about 20K miles and 6 track sessions and they are barely worn. I would expect 35-40K out of a front set in normal driving, but would check them at 15-20K if you do a lot of city driving; like SuDZ mentioned, it all depends on your driving conditions.

I do mostly city/suburban driving and probably have 15K on the fronts. I'll do a close inspection of them this weekend. Thanks for the input.

Have you ever used stillen pads (metal matrix), I also have stillen x-drilled rotors f/r and am about to switch from the stillen pads to porterfield's, just curious about the differences....

I have had Porterfields for about 10k now. Fronts look around half way worn, and the rears look around 1/4 worn. I expect to get around 20k from the fronts (I do a lot of city driving) and twice that from the rears.

The Stillen Metal Matrix pads are the same as Axxis Metal Master pads.

Ever try Hawk Blues at the track? We're running a couple of Spec Miatas in New England this year and just put two cars together. So I took one of the cars out at night after we had installed the new brakes and started bedding them in. The first time I hit the brakes a shower of sparks flew out of both front wheels. I had driven only a couple of miles and the rotors already had grooves in them. Man those pads are HARD. But stop? Holy cow. I felt like my contacts were going to pop out.

You can ONLY use those pads on the track. The rotor wear is the price you pay for performance.

CFster:

No I haven't tried them. I just switched to a set of Carbotech's Panther + for a track pad. They held up pretty good at Limerock, I still need to try them at NHIS. I was there today, but it was pouring, so they didn't really get hot enough to fully evaluate them. If they don't hold up like I expect them to, the Hawk Blue's are probably next.
