Passenger Door Light not working
Passenger Door Light not working
96 Max GLE.
Try and solve this problem Maxima Fans.
The Passenger Door light will not come on ever since I accidently
touched the metal bulb holder with a screw driver and both side
made contact.
I disconnected the whole plastic bulb holder and plugged it
into the drivers side door and it came on.
There is power going to the wires, I check them with a voltmeter
and a test light.
One wire is 12v and the other is 4.9 volts
On the drivers side the voltage is different
one is 12v and the other is 0v.
I get the light to come on when I put in a wire with one side grounded to the door latch and the other side to the wire with 4.9v.
But when I shut the door it stays on.
What could be the damn problem.
Any takers?

Yeah, I'm sorry to inform you that you "fried" your passenger door LCU (I assume it's for Logic Control Unit). Your step lamps get constant positive and get grounded when the BCU (body control unit) senses that the door is opened. The BCU monitors the doors, among many other things, once it detects a door is open, it knows which one and sends a signal to that doors LCU. The doors LCU then supplies the ground. You more than likely fried the internals of the passenger LCU and it can no longer provide an adequate ground of 0 volts like the drivers door. Try junk yards or org members before you buy a new one from the dealer. Good luck and hope this is understandable.
In case it wasn't clear, the LCU is pretty much the window switch. Each door has one but only the front two have to provide ground to their respective lights. Because they are independent that's why your drivers door still work.
