$1300 3yr bumper to bumper warranty, ditch it?

When I got my '99 Maxima, I got a warranty and paid over $1300 for it.
I can still get my $$$ back if I cancel within the next few days here.

After reading the forums, I'm having a hard time deciding.

Has ANYONE run into a $1400 repair on their 4th gen between 60-100k miles?

I'm thinking as long as I do maintenance, and since they don't cover wear parts like brakes & rotors... what do you guys think???

I bought mine for $ 1150 and 5 months ago I had to replace my MAF which was $ 400 at a dealership. If I were you I would keep it.

I showed the Dealership an online invoice of an online warranty place for $800 for 5 years.

I also showed them Maximas online for sale in my area that were alot cheaper.

Nissan matched that deal (warranty and car) to sell me the car. And added a spoiler and tint.

28k on the car, all that stuff added: Total = $15400.

If it's a genuine Nissan warranty, keep it. Also realize you can haggle on the price a GREAT deal on Nissan warranties. I got my 5/100,000 warranty for almost half what they originally wanted.

FWIW, I've got a 98SE 5spd with 80k that has had about $300 worth of work done. But I'll see if I can get a tranny out of em before 100k is up...

Important question: did you buy your '99 as a new or used vehicle?

I bought my 2nd hand '97 SE 5-spd in '99 & it came with extended warranty. That paid off big time when the Max developed tranny problems. At that time, it had ~50K miles. I don't know how the previous owner drove it but it must've been pretty rough! A gear tooth got busted off!? I ended up having the whole tranny replaced (my dealership didn't even consider repairing it) & I had a courtesy car for a week. If I had to shoulder that repair, I'm sure it would've been WELL over $1400.

man, I'd get all my money back NOW if you can. Warranties are a rip off and the chances of your car needing > $1300 worth of repair in the next 40k is virtually slim to none. Even if you tried to use it there would be a deductible I bet. Your transmission or motor would have to blow up to get anything out of it and if I paid that amount for that warranty/insurance I would be hoping it did. Man, don't do it. put that money in an IRA and let it sit the whole time and at the end of the warranty period you can look back and say, man am I glad I not only didn't WASTE that $1300 but I now have 2 grand in the bank which means you're $3300 richer 40k from now. Please don't make a huge mistake!! Hell, I bought my 98 SE with 82k on it last october from an auction. If you've had your car checked out you will be fine!! Please let us know that you decide to cancel it.

If you ever have a big repair bill and got rid of the warranty you will be kicking yourself in the butt. I always get an extended warranty because.....YOU NEVER KNOW!

that is correct. you never know what COULD happen. But I know what will 99% happen - in 40k miles he will regret buying it. Dude, every day you play the odds. Just because someone offers you insurance which is exactly what this is, doesn't mean you HAVE to take it...Remember, it is a warranty...just like the manuf. warranty..I bet it only covers parts that fail due to workmanship quality, not wear and tear items. And if it aint broke by now, it aint gonna by 100k. If you don't buy it you are just insuring it yourself which is much cheaper than paying someone else to insure it. And IF you do try to file a claim they'll find something in the small print to get out of it . Man, what is gonna cost $1300 to repair on that thing anyway by 100k. You are buying a Nissan, not a Yugo. Don't let anyone here make you think that $1300 is a good deal for a warranty. Never buy an extended warranty on anything..Hell, I wouldn't pay $100 for it...it is just a waste. You ever heard of being insurance poor? My grandmother once bought a calculator for $35 then bought a warranty for it for $30. If you buy this then you need to by insurance on everything else you own too.
