How do I test for vacuum leaks?

any suggestions?

my car stutters -- some drives OFTEN -- like this morning...
the RPMs will vary wildly, but, it didn't shut off (this morning).

OK, so, I've already taken the normal steps:
1) Clean Throttle Body
2) Replaced fuel filter
3) Replaced PCV
4) Replaced Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor

So, I'd like to check out my vacuum hoses...any suggestions?

Thanks!

Your TPS (throttle position sensor) is most likely toast. I had a similiar thing. Mine would rev way high like it had gone nuts.

Better auto stores sell a little vacuum thingy with a gauge that lets you pull a vacuum on the line and watch the bleed-down rate.

Are you getting the CEL?

Use this site to test the TPS:

http://www.vbxmaxima.8m.com/tps.html

Replacement is more like $250, not $70 like the article says. But shop around.

clean the IAC valve

The idle air control valve may be carboned up. I cleaned my throttle body and then had idle problems. . When I cleaned my IAC valve it was like night and day difference on the idle.
Do a search for a recent thread about "high idle". It has instructions.
