Got Rust?

My borther's 95 200sx is rusting bad, my girlfriend's 97 Altima is starting to show signs, my old 91 Stanza rusted bad, as did my dad's old 88 Maxima and mom's old 88 Stanza.

However I can't think of ever seeing a rusty 4th gen. Anyone have signs of rust? Neither my 99 or my Mom's 97 have any.

I'm in CT and I've seen a few rotting 4th gens. Usually on/above the wheel wells and around the trunk.

Mine is a 98 and been driven through salt for years and has no rust to speak of.

It has a lot to do with how well you clean it during the salt season. Going through a carwash isn't good enough. You have to get under there with a hose and really clean out the ****.

As long as you wash off the salt IMMEDIATELY!!!! you should be ok. It's when it sits for a while that it eats into the body.

rust

Just the pillar bettwen the rear door mobile glass and the fix glass. And trust me this car spent time in Montréal, Chicoutimi, Halifax in Canada. So it had more than it's share of rocks, salt and calcium. The secret is a good rust treatement from the start and to rinse of the winter build-up as often as you can. And do not park the car in a warm enviroment with salt on it(garage)!! The car is built tough to be outside!

My entire exhaust system is rusted though it has nothing to do with the material more like a problem on how it was installed..

Other than that the rear beam for the wheels is showing signs of rust.

I ment body rust...sorry. The stock exhaust on my mom's car has been rusting for a while now, that's kinda expected.

Yea I got rust on my sunroof. The part where the weather stripping feeds into. Also looks like some rust on the underside of my rear beam.

the very big beam/piece of metal that goes from the front of the car to the back is rusting.

Also theres little rust spots by my rear wheel fender, but they were just growing after the salty winter & I just got it off with no paint damage.

Wow, glad rust hasnt been a problem for me so far but looks like it is possible since some of you are getting it. Glad I am getting my car repainted and wont have to worry about it as much.

some rust, but not much

My car was in California for 3 years, which is one of the best places for a car to be (weather wise). Since coming back to New England, I've started getting some minor rust. Any rust I have on the body panels is in the form of very small rust dots (paint chips which have now started to rust), located on the front end of the hood, front fenders, and trunk. My rear axle welding seams have started to rust also.

I plan on picking a warm day this summer and just hitting them all--remove rust, prime, then paint w/touch up. I think that'll take care of it. I've been very impressed that the rust hasn't spread faster (it's been 4 years since I came back from CA).

BTW, have you noticed that the front fenders have a gap adjacent to the doors which allows all kinds of debris to get in there (leaves, twigs, and other organic matter)? Although I don't see any fender rust yet on my Maxima, I'm going to get a snake kind of tool to clean them out. I've seen other cars end up with severe rust because of this, so I don't want to take any chances. Might be a good idea for you to check your car and see if you have the same situation.
