Fuel Guage Stuck

..on my way to get my daily paper and coffee..so i decide go fill my car up while im at it..the machine says $20.00 and 15.blah blah gallons..

ANYWAY, i drive for around 10 minutes and the guage has been saying only half full...i was smart and thought about it it couldnt be half full..so i drive on trying not to think about it and then 5 min later it pops up to full...

My question is, what the H8ll is wrong? the darn thing made me think i was leaking gas or some **** like that!??!?

Mine doesn't go instantly up but it doesn't take that long I think. I'll watch it next time I go get gas.
