IS this thing glued on or screwed on? It
definitely is not coming off by hand. Is
there a trick to this? Let me know.

It's screwed AND glued. That's why you are having so much trouble removing it. You will probably have to resort to a strap wrench, a pipe wrench, or a large pair of Channelock pliers.

For a 5spd a strap wrench works wonders.

BIG wrench, vice grips...etc...

just use some rubber matting between it so it wont scratch the ball. or you can be superman and wrench the thing off with your bare hands...then again if you can do that and fly you'd have better things to do than work on a max. enjoy
