I was looking around for Maxima SE's in my area and came upon an ad for a 1996 Maxima GLE that had a 5 speed manual transmission. I questioned the owner whether it was a fully loaded GXE with a manual or a SE with a manual. I thought the GLE's only came in automatic. The owner stated that he searched a long time for this and was positive on the model. The car is loaded with a spoiler, making me believe it is an SE. I can't seem to find on the car websites like Edmund's the option to put in a 5 speed on a GLE.

its my impression that gle's are not available in manual. it's either a fully loaded gxe or se, or he's had a swap

 

check the vin number.....also - if it never had any tranny work done before, its not a gle

 

GLE's only came in auto...however if he bought it new, sometimes the dealers will say you have an SE, but all the options of the GLE, so maybe he thought he had a GLE.
