Do we have a new user status "I finally posted something!"? Or is that normal for somebodys 1st post?

Make sure your starter isn't making a winning noise after you release the key, there prone to that, but it's an easy fix. Also make sure you have no check engine lights on. Check the vehicle maintenance records to make sure things were done.
The Maxima and the VQ motor are very reliable cars. But watch out, the mod bug bites hard!
5 Speed or Auto?

I would make sure the car had some major maintence done already. Plugs, fuel filter, tranny flush, coolent flush, brake job and no oil leaks.

The 95s were notorious for the starter failure and the rear O2 sensor was recalled. I have a 95 and am on the original starter w/ 130,000 miles on it. I did replace the rear O2 before the recall though. It has been a perfect car and I didn't start modding it until about a year ago. I pretty much just replaced things that needed it w/ performance parts. For example, my factory brakes lasted till 103,000 (excellent) then I replaced them w/ cross drilled rotors. Needed new struts and springs so I lowered it w/ new ones. The engine is indestructable. Just keep it well maintained. Like 1Max2NV sayed, check for the engine light. Make sure it lights up when you turn the key over but it should immediately go out. Enjoy.
