Odd Manual Climate Control question...

Some jack as… errr deviant broke into my car about a year ago, and tried to pop my stereo out with a crow bar or big screw driver. Guess he missed the Deviants 101 class, where they explained that Maximas have bolt in stereos.

Anyway, he trashed the bevel around the stereo (replaced with OEM), trashed my Sony CD Player (replaced with Alpine), broke my window (replaced), and popped the stupid little temperature control button off of my climate control.

Here is my dilemma. The new button I got from Nissan will not go back on, because the little tabs are popped off on the “thingy” that sticks out of the climate control. The LED is a little buggered now because it has been used as the button for a year now. Since I am trying to fix all the little things wrong with my Max lately (fixed the antennae mast, stuff like that) I figured this would be on my list.

I was thinking I could just epoxy the button on there but there isn’t much to epoxy it too, and if I need to replace the LED after it being buggered up like that, then I won’t be able to get to it.

Does anyone have any suggestions, aside from replacing the 200 dollar unit as a whole for fixing the button? Does anyone maybe have one of the manual ones laying around that they could send me for cheap or grab that “arm thingy” out of?

Thanks.

Having recently taken my manual HVAC controls apart, I can tell you that there are several different "parts" inside the box. Keep reading...I'm not trying to state the obvious. The temp. slider switch is attaced to it's own little PC board. The board is about 1/2 inch tall, and about 3-4 inched wide. So, take the unit apart. It's a pain, but go slowly and it will all make sense. Watch out for little plastic clips holding the whole thing together. Once you get that final PC board piece out, take to the dealership and see if they can order just that one part. This way you don't have to replace the whole unit.

Just an idea.

I have the same problem! The left side of the little green led is broken off, and my climate button barely stays on there (falls off frequently) I don't really want to just glue the darn thing back on there, so I kinda left it the way it is. Anyhow, let me know if you figure out how to get the part replaced or repaired for cheap- Or perhaps we can fabricate a cooler looking button, because the oem button sticks out so much that it gets banged around a lot. Maybe we can design our own slider button and use some sort of clip to stick it to the led bulb.
