Is this normal with my Y-pipe???
I have hade my y-pipe on for a couple of months and it started making some wierd gergling noises. THe y-pipe is the only part of the exhaust that I have replaced, so I thought it was supposed to be pretty quiet.
This noise happens usually when I down shift and the engine is reving down between 1-2k RPM, and is most prominent when rolling around low in 1st gear. I suspect that there is an exhaust leak around the header, but I have not had the time to get under there.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Ted

i think he is talkin about how when u are comin to a stop and the engine is revving down (5 speed) right around 1.5k the exhaust tone sorta breaks up and goes silent, and i hope its normal cuz mine does that, i think it has to do with the exhaust being high flow now and since at those rpms there rilly isnt a constant stream of exhaust it has too much room to work with, so yea im guessin its normal.
Well its not that it gets quiet, but that it goes from the normal down rev sound to a gergling/popping noise, almost like it's back firing.
I have to get under the car to see if something is leaking or broken. I will try to get the car off the ground tomarrow and take a closer look.
It also makes this noise when it idles high when I first start it up. I seems louder than normal.

Mine was doing this on my WSP non mandrel, the reason I say was is because the flex section was shot, therefore extra exhaust was leaking out between the flex and where it connects. It was shot because I was running without a hanger until I could get a replacement for my old crappy one, but I wasn't able to get it soon enough. Now my car sounds like it should with the y-pipe.
