transmission problem?

Hey Guys,
I got a 98 Black Maxima SE 5 speed about 6 weeks ago. It has about 47,000 miles on it. The only upgrade i've done so far is the K&N filter with the adapter piece to fit it to the velocity stack. Well anywyas, recently i noticed then when i'm in 3rd or 4th gear and I press hard on the accelerator, the RPMS will skyrocket by about 3,000, then they will slow down, and drop about 1,000 RPMS. My friend told me that this was a transmission problem but I wasn't sure. Anyone else experience this or know whats going on? Thanks.

Sounds like a dead clutch.

Get an ACT clutch to replace it.
