kicked the **** out of a white 4th gen 5 spd

i was on my way home from work, and a white 4th gen max pulls up next to me (in my rose pearl 96 gle) i THINK it was an SE, as it had 5spokes. well, anyways it had really gay fast blinky turns and those cheeeeezy altezzas. he tosses a rev, i powerbreak a little to launch with better revs, but not too much so as not to break traction- anyways, the light goes green, i HOSE him off the line, and all the way up the hill (after the turn) i am pulling on him. we got to the onramp for i-5. and on the way down, he tries to pass me, so i nail it, and slowly creep away from him. on the freeway, yet again, he tries to go at it. i wont race top end (dangerous) but by 80, i had... about 2 cars i think? (he was JUST behind the blind spot on the passenger side mirror) when i stopped accelerating, feeling good about delivering a whooping- his intake was LOUD so it had at least intake, no real exhaust sound (he did ricer flyby even though i tapped by brakes) i guess it shows that all the stickers and lame-o lites on the back of your car don't do anything to make it faster. i typically dont race (especially in the max, still low miles, and if i want to drive a fast car, i will drive the fiero- hard to get races in, though) all in all, pretty fun. i didn't think that the gle would be able to beat a 5spd, just MAYBE keep up (due to lower mileage than average)

oh, BTW, i know it was a 5 speed because of chirping 1-2 shift, and the front end dropping as he shifted... my father would beat me for shifts that slow (used to autocross against my dad w/ the fiero)

specs on the max-

just hit 65k miles, new fuel filter, freshly changed oil, more spark plug gap, high octane gast (about 100 octane- 92+ tolulene with ethanol as a stabilizer- works WONDERS on cleaning injectors)
no a/c on, no radio on, stock 15" wheels, all the crap thats not bolted down taken out (cleaned car day before) according to gtech, running mid 15 sec qtr mile times at 92 ( it IS a gtech though)

fiero
3.2l v6, agressive cam (won't idle worth poo)
1.6 ratio rockers
forged pistons
12 degrees timing
100 octane gas
4.11 gears w/ 14" wheels, dot slicks in back, 195's in front
lots of weight reduction

throughout the modding process, the times went from high 15's (w/ 180k mile 2.8 vg

to 12.97@102 w/ all carpet, trim, decklid, windows, doorpanel, etc. removed.

not really street driven much (too loud.. adn bumpy... and uncomfy)
at WOT predictions are 4.6 mpg, evens out to 13mpg.. 13-15mpg if all freeway (4.11 gears = 4400 rpm @70 in top gear) i have some video clips around if anyones interested. talk about traction, launch at 4k and nary a chirp, just feels like you got kicked in the butt by a giant

in general a 5speed will have problems from dead stop versus auto.
if its 97+ its heavy and the pop charger wont help him at low end, so he had disadvantages.

heavy? the 97 to 99 maxima's (4th gen) are just as heavy as the 95-96 and they are lighter than the generation before and after them....

Yes, all 4th Gen Maxima are lighter than both 3rd and 5th Gens, but the '97-'99s are heavier than the '95-'96s.
Look at a '97 Maxima vehicle registration for a quick second. Third row on the left is says EW (estimated weight). My '96 is 2886 lbs. What's somebody's '97?

I didn't know my car's weight was on my registration. After seeing your post, I checked. Sure enough, you are correct. My 98 SE has an estimtaed weight of 2961 lbs.

I knew the 95-96es were lighter, just didn't realize that it was nearly 100lbs or so.
