This seems odd that rust is starting to appear on your car, for that Nissan paints are very reliable on rust protection. Do you have splash guards on your car? If not, I highly recommend it because this will avoid any moisture build-up around the doors. Do you park your car in the garage? If so, this too will make rust appear because the moisture takes a longer time to evaporate as compared to keeping the car outside. This is especiallly true in the winter time. When snow gets on the car, and you store it in the garage afterwards, the moisture settles in with the metal of the car without any quick evaporation. The snow melts, and the moisture just "lies" there. In fact, I have a '95 and I can't find one rust particle on my car. It's been sitting outside for almost 8 years. A good wax job once or twice a year will also help and slow-up the build up any any rust appearing. Sorry, to hear about your problem, though. I feel your pain. I hope this information helped you out any.

Heh...yea, but leaving it outside can introduce just as many, if not more, problems to the paint. I guess the only way to prevent anything from happening is to build a protective bubble around your max :/

I've got a rust spot or two, none on the exterior of the car. I think one is on one of the inside of the doors, and the other on the inside of the trunk lid.

At least we aren't all plagued with rust in a similar way to early-to-mid 90s Hondas with the gas-tank-side rear wheelwell rust.

I fought rust continually when I lived in the northern states...especially Buffalo NY. I purchased my Max new in 96 in Connecticut and moved to the Southwest a few month later....northern climates can be a killer sometimes on our cars....those salty dog highways will do em in fast. I have not had a rust issue here at all.....just DUST!!!! Can't get away from mother nature.
