I have a bunch of small questions tonight

go get a pressure check and see if you have any refrigerant left. also have them check for leaks so you dont have to spend all that money just for it to leak out.

oh, I havent worked on maxima ac systems before but on the cars that I worked on, a few of the problems were that the refrigerant leaked out of the connections due to damaged "O" rings and a few had leaking condensers.

I dont think that a working AC is very cold on the Max. I mean 65 degrees isnt THAT cold. Well, not cold enough anyways. Summertime in cali, in a black car, requires a lower temp than 65 degrees!!!

mine used to be super cold, like 40F, but now it only gets to maybe 60 when driving on the highway and 70 at best when idling at a stop light.

I had a rock bounce up, hit my condenser and put a hole in it. I had to replace the unit.

Freon? I thought newer cars got rid of that and that's the reason our AC is not that cold. In any case, if the AC is not cold at all, chances are you have a major leak somewhere. You can fill the system with coolant and see if it leaks out anywhere. A few years back, under warrantee, my AC was not cold at all. The dealer filled it up and didn't detect any visible leaks. Day later, it was not cold again. This time, dealer puts in flourescent dye with the coolant. Lo and behold, the stuff is seen coming out of a crack in one of the metal pipes in back of the intake manifold area.

if your goign to the NE meet on the 9th I can help you check it, and if you buy some r-134a refrigerant, I can help you put it in. the rrefrigerant only costs about 7 dollars.

you can buy a 20 dollar kit with everything you need....its easy, just use the port that says L not H, if you use H you can hurt yourself pretty badly, if you use the L port, then its a very "safe" procedure.

My a/c has been hot for a while, at first i thought it was only the refrigerant, but after i refilled it, it got hot again. The told me it was the evaporator, but I have this hunch that they are trying to squeeze me for all my money, you say to check the O-rings for damaghe? I know that when you change an evaporator you must change the O-rings too, what are the possibilities for that being the cause of the leak for me? Thanks in advance.

My A/C is not cold too! I have checked refrigerant pressure and it seems fine. I wonder if you have to flush the system and refil it completely once in a while?

About the O rings, if they were bad, wouldn't that show as a leak and therefore lower pressure?

yes they would leak. If the O rings are the cause, most ppl would assume to tighten the rings more thinking that would seal it but thats not going to help. You will have to get new ones

one thing is to stay away from are those refrigerants that are "blends" that say that they are a direct drop-in for r134 but some of them actually damage your system since its not completely r134. They will work for a little while but then they will start to destroy components.
