ACT Installed and STS...Some Questions ??

Alright on the clutch
HD-MM ACT- Very hard engadgement like it grinds when I go to take off ? Is that normal and will it go away after the break in period...grinds bad its almost like its installed wrong ? but only does it in 1st and Reverse...I hope it get smoother...and its like on or off right now...no inbetween

STS- Very far up...in other words when im in 3rd its right next to the plastic near the shifter...I dont know if that right...I love the shifter as a hole but the hole thing is up too far ?

Please make me feel better about this money I spent

I don't know about your STS since I've never installed one, but most if not all of your clutch chatter should go away. My ACT clutch had it for about 1,000 miles or so. Just be nice to it for the first 500 miles or so, then you can "test" it out.

I had a ACT clutch installed this past march. When I drove it for the first time it felt like the clutch pedal had about a 1/2" of engangement and was noticably harder to engage. My clutch made more of groan than a grind noise in first and reverse as well when new.

The cause of the groan noise was because I was engaging the clutch like I did with the OEM setup. With the stock clutch I barely had to give it any gas for a smooth start. With the ACT clutch I give it the gas first then start to engage the clutch. Try changing your technique. Once the clutch and pressure plate broke-in engangement became much more progressive and did not require as much pressure.

If you have not done so change to redline synthetic gear lubricant. I can't beleive how easy it is to shift my max since I changed to it.

Sounds like your sts was installed backwards. Pull the shift boot down - the rod should "bend" toward the back seat.

I can't comment on the sts but the first couple hundred miles w/ my ACT were like you state. I found that I had the smoothest engagement when I started letting the clutch out w/ the rpms at around 2k. After about 600 miles and a trip to the track my ACT now engages like the stock clutch did. Now I let it out around 1200 w/ no chatter what-so-ever. I love it and, speaking of which, just today had an emergency where I had to chirp 2nd to avoid some ahole that didn't stop for a light. I love this clutch. Good luck w/ the sts.

The install for the clutch was $360+$45 for the Flywheel...

I thought I was tearing my car apart while I was getting used to the ACT. You've got to remember two things: 1> your old clutch was slipping and 2> the pressure plate w/ the ACT has tougher springs so it's got more holding power. Assuming the clutch was properly installed and adjusted it will get better as you get used to it and it breaks in. Give it some more time. Good luck. Let us know after 500 miles.

You can even hear it from outside the car...my car is going to break

Mine all went away. When I investigated it closer I found that the bracket that came w/ my Stillen intake was being shaken by the "struggling" engine. This shaking bracket was hitting a brake line and some of the inside of the driver side fender. I secured it down better and all the noise went away. It sounded like my car was falling apart as well. How are the rest of the gears once you're moving? I really was concerned about mine until it went away - sounds like what you're experiencing but maybe you should have it checked out if it will make you feel better. Also, keep an eye on the clutch fluid, mine went down some once the clutch seemed to feel better. I topped it off and everything is great w/ it. Sorry for the long post. Good luck.
