Vibration in Shifter (5spd)

While driving I usually have my right hand on the shifter and my left hand on the wheel. I've noticed for quite some time that there is some vibration in the shifter while driving. The vibration becomes more pronounced if I push the shifter lightly to the opposite side of neutral. For example if I'm in 2nd or 4th and I push down on the shifter (away from neutral and towards e-brake) I can feel the vibration getting stronger. Same thing in 3rd (push away from neutral and towards stereo). Also sometimes I cant get into 1st or Reverse and I have to double clutch.
Do you guys have any idea what could be causing this. If so help me out.

Thanks
Nas

normal, your shifter is connected to directly to the tranny which is connected directly to the engine, so your feeling the vibration off the engine

its possible that the 240sx had some kind of cable or indirect linkage to the tranny, i know my 3rd gen has a rod connection, pretty sure about the 4th gens having them too, a little vibration never hurt anything

Do NOT rest your hand on the shifter! You will put load on the gear and cause wear to the shift forks, syncros, etc. Put your right hand on the steering wheel where it should be.

I just read the same thing in one of the other threads I was searching through. I'll have to break my habit of doing that. Thanks for the advice.

If you do keep your hand on the shifter, use a very light touch. Then when you're ready to shift, grab that thing and GO!
