Su[percharger Question??

I am thinking about getting a supercharger for my 1997 Maxima. I have heard mixed emotions on the wear on the engine and tranny. I drive the car everyday so I am not sure it can handle the extra boost. If anyone can enlighten me with some facts about this mod it would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Su[percharger Question??

If you drive your car like your at a race track of course your engine life will be shorter. Boost comes in when you take your RPMS above a certain number. My car is my daily driver, no problems here. Just drive your car like a normal Human being and when the opportunity comes and someone is trying to play you play, if not just chill. Go on ahead get you a blower if they totally destroyed the car I tell you dont get one. Ask others for their opinions, many guys dont have them since they do cost over $3000 brand new.

My car is a daily driver so I've not encountered any mechanical problems. I had mine installed Oct.10,2000. The boost only comes on when you want it to ie. pedal to the metal.

I'm very limited in my mechanical abilities and knowledge, but don't SCs operate continually throughout the powerband? Isn't it turbo's that only operate past a certain point?

I think the only danger with a supercharger would be keeping your leadfoot in check. It would tempt you to drive the car harder more often. From what I know, turbos are another story...

Here's a thread for you about superchargers:

We're using a Vortech centrifugal supercharger.

Once I got my SC installed I did go through leadfoot-itis for a short while however common sense determined when it was safe to do so.

Get at least a tranny cooler and change you ATF and Oil religiously. You will be fine... at least until you get that "I need more boost" bug.

You honestly don't know it's there until you punch it. Mine is driven every day, I have 130,000 miles and it runs great. Don't let reliablity be an issue for you. Good luck.
