Does anyone know how to do this, is so I need your help. Dealer suggested to change my serpentine belts because they are cracked, they wanted 160 bucks is this OK or is this something I can do? I got both belts from one of my friends for 17 bucks for both, I have them but it looks kind of difficult to get to them, not enough space to work with. I have a SUPER BLACK 96 SE.

q-lube

The last time I check with q-lube or Jiffy lube. They want like $35 for it. I guess that's not bad. My car have 130k haven't replace the belt yet. The dealer told me to change it when i had 60k, still no problem yet.

$17 for both belts is a low price. Are they name-brand parts? You got a super deal... or maybe you got poor-quality belts.

You can install those belts yourself. If you pay a professional to install them, it ought to be about 0.5 hours of labor.

The best way to learn about your car and develop confidence in your own ability is to tackle the small jobs first and work your way up. Replacing these belts is something which can be done by the home mechanic.

Get yourself a Chilton or Haynes manual and read up on it before you get started. Either book will do, but Haynes is the better of the two. You can buy these manuals at a large bookstore (Barnes & Noble, BookStar, Borders) or an auto parts store (AutoZone, etc.). You may find them on the shelf at your local public library.

This is a matter of opinion, and others may disagree. Dayco belts are okay, Gates are better. Go ahead and use the Daycos but don't be too surprised if they don't last as long as the OEM belts did.

Any manufacturer can call his product "heavy duty". Unfortunately it has become a meaningless term. You may notice superlatives which go beyond "heavy duty". I've seen "extra duty", "super duty", and "ultra duty". Equally meaningless.

yea right!

I have to disagree with DANIEL B. MARTIN. I hate to do this as he is GOD OF NISSAN.

I bought the NISSAN BELTS from Courtesy for $25. I tried to install them myslef and about rounded the bolt off of the tensioner pulley. I got all of the other bolts lose, but this one was impossible. I even went as far as loosening the engine mounts and jacking the engine to get at the bolt better.

Whoever said 35 at Jiffy Lube is on crack. Show me some documention if you want to argue with me. Mueller Tire did mine for $45 with the belts and I have documention for it

Anyway...it isn't worth your time to mess with it if you ask me. DANIEL B. MARTIN might disagree in that you get a kick out of working on your car, but my time is worth more than $45. I can work on the car just fine, but this job was going to require that I break the bolt with a nut cracker and then replace that bolt and nut....not worth it to ME! Now you might be able to get it all off nice and easy....best of luck if you can!
