Yeap, it would be cheaper

to just trade it in and get a 5spd. Or you can just get the VB mod when don comes back into business.

Price it out. You will faint when you find out how expensive this is.
Don't imagine this is just a trans-for-trans swap. You will need a
flywheel, clutch, throwout bearing, clutch pedal, clutch
hydraulics, shifter, etc. etc.

If you are absolutely in love with the idea of converting to 5-speed, look
for a wrecked car (an organ donor) that you can buy for low money. That
way you get everything you need in one package.

The best course of action is to find a clean 5-speed, buy it, and sell your present car.
Who knows, you might even find a guy who is willing to trade because he just got married,
his wife can't drive a stick, etc. etc.

Okay guys, this is one I definetly know....

My best friend did it on his 95 SE. The total came out to about $3K... Heres what he did.... He got a used 5sp with about 50K miles on it or so. He added a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch, Stillen Aluminum Flywheel, and Short Shifter. All the work took about 4-5 days (parts weren't there in time) I remember seeing his receipt for about $2500 but I know there were other little receipts also. He didn't have to break in the tranny or anything so as soon as he left, (besides the short shifter being stiffer than hell) it TOOK OFF!!!
Find a reputable nissan shop that will do it. In my honest opinion... like someone mentioned, go with the VB mod unless you're totaly in love with having a 5sp

VB mod = Valve Body modification. The valve body is an internal part of the automatic transmission which governs shifting behavior.

The valve body can be removed without taking the transaxle out of the car. To get the VB mod you remove the valve body assembly from your transaxle and send it off to "Don in Texas". He modifies your hardware and sends it back. You install it with fresh ATF.

The VB mod is said to make the transmission shift faster and without slippage. It is supposed to improve acceleration and transmission life. I can't vouch for these claims because my Maxima doesn't have the VB mod. (My Maxima is a 5-speed.)

He was charging about $450, but he might go up after all of the flames last week. I hope not.

Re: VB= Valve Body modification

I highly doubt there will be an improvement in 1/4. Maybe on a SC or Nitrous car. I have the valve body and it didn't do anything for me in the 1/4. If it's was a .6 improvement, my car will be running in the low 14s.
