My car has been idling very badly ever since i checked and reset my ecu..

i idle at about 550 in Park/eutral and when i'm driving and come to a full stop it idles at 450rpm's... and my car stalls lately too.. atleast once a day

i cleaned my TB like last month... and fuel filter 2 weeks ago..

what could be the problem? and how do i fix it?

lastly as in the header-- how do i raise up my idle?? i'm getting sick of the rough idle

 

hey, i cant really help you with your idling problem, but wanted to know if you have been to the track with your sentra spec-v? and how did it do?

Make sure you Idle Air hose isn't crimped and that you don't have any intake leaks. Also, you might clean your IACV. Do a search about it

DO NOT adjust that screw. It is meant to be adjusted by the dealer only. Anyway, during idle, the screw isn't even touching the lever.

 

I wasn't suggesting you do a search about your problem... do a search about cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve

 

Just cleaned the IAC this past weekend. Don't know if it really made a difference but at least I know it's clean now.

Q: there is a black **** on the IAC assembly. What does that do? I accidently turned it while cleaning and when everything was back together, I adjusted it and didn't see any change in idle that I might have thought it adjusted.

 

i know i read that somewhere, that it was set and we're not suppose
to adjust it.....so how are we suppose to adjust it? bring it
to the dealer?
i did it to my car and it's fine..never had a problem

 

2 ways to do this.

1 - With the engine off, disconnect the TPS, start the car and adjust using the thorttle stop screw to 650 RPM's Turn off the engine, reconnect TPS.

2 - With engine running, adjust IAC bypass screw until desired idle speed is reached. That screw is located just above the IAC valve. It's plastic with a phillips head. On some cars it's green.

 

search for ANY posts that I've started in the last 3 months, and you'll see my pain...I FINALLY FIXED MY CAR!!! and what MaxPower (was that the SN?) is saying is to tighten the two ground wires by the fuel rail.

My other guess -- when you reset your ECU, did you turn the screw back to the correct position?

yea i'm sure i reset it cuz my ECU light never came back on

what should my Idle be at? umm and now i can even here mroe of a hiss thru my intake now.. iks that normal?

 

600 in drive and yes the hiss is normal.

hey i actually just read some more about the idle screw..

they said it was bad for the car? should i go back and return it back to the idle it was at before?

cuz when i turned the IACV screw the car got better... ahh so torn? should i justy bring it to a nissan dealership somewhere?

 

My $0.02...

Personally, I think you can adjust the idle screw and nothing bad should happen.
If you take apart the IACV piece, you'll notice that the screw just lets more air in
(mind you, after the filter and MAFS) and brings up the idle.

But, while this solved your low idle problem, it didn't fix it...the screw didn't tighten on its own...
so your low idle is a result of something else.

That said, while your idle is up, the problem that caused this still exists.

So, if your comfortable with adjusting the screw -- then cool!
If not, then start examining what may have caused the issue.

well i know there is a problem.. i'll prolly bring it into a dealership sometime this summer...

i do hear ticks tho... coming from the vacinity fo the intake and IACV around that area.. i couldnt quite find it tho ghrrrr

 

Do a search on "ticking" or "ticks"...I remember someone posting something on this recently...I think it was a fuel pump or something.

some other options for low idle:
bad fuel pump?
bad ground wires?
bad fuel filter?
bad PCV?
clogged air filter?

FLO_BOY is correct, both methods accomplish the same thing, they let more air into the intake and your idle will increase.

The only drawback I can see with moving the set screw on the throttle stop is it may offset your TPS. But the amount of movement needed to see sugnifficant changes in your idle will most likely not even be seen by the TPS. You can check to see if your TPS is still within specs. A multi meter is all you need to check the resistance reading of your TPS. It can be adjusted by moving it slightly. There is a thread on here with pics that shows you exactly how to check and adjust your TPS. Search is your friend!

If your car now idles correctly after making these adjustments and seems to perform well with smooth accelleration and no jerky feeling at slow speed, your TPS is probably within specs.
