Cat back exhausts and the O2 sensor relationship
Cat back exhausts and the O2 sensor relationship
I just ordered my y pipe from budget and am now looking to upgrade my cat and my catback exhaust. Since i would like to do all of the mods at the same time, I need a little info. . . Does the '98 SE have 3 O2 sensors in the exhaust and if they do, do i need a catback that accomodates these, or would i be fine w/o it? are there any other ways to work around this are do some have o2 holes already in them. another thing is what makes the best gains, medium sound and LOW COST. being on a budget SUX.
lets just make this simple
WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET?
thanks

Bottom line...if you don't mind the CEL, you don't need to have that sensor installed.
The y-pipe has 2 o2 sensors and there is one more after the cat.
If your on a budget, then stick to just the y-pipe. Replacing the rest of the exhaust will produce minimal gains, only do it if you end up getting forced induction or if you want a louder car.

Yes, your 98 has 3 O2 sensors, with the thrid being after the cat itself. I've had an Apexi WS catback for quite a while (1 year+) and never had it modified for the rear O2 sensor. No problems (although the CEL was on). I just had a test pipe made with the fitting for the O2 sensor, so now its back in.
