Maxima slow off the line!!!

I have a 96 Maxima and I have alot done to it. Such as exhaust, rims, and other stuff. Well, I raced my friend that has a Grand Am. When I first raced him I killed him because it was a long road. But when we went to a parking lot, his car killed mine. My car reacts late for some reason. It doesn't kick in for a while. What should I do to make it faster? Does anyones maxima do the same?

pontiac engines generally have short low gears, thats the reason why they own us off the line sometimes

I notice the maximas power isnt exactly expressed off the line anyway, but u have those damn chrome rims which give u good traction but weigh u down. before i got my maxima i drove around my moms 99' grandprix se, only 200hp and weighs like 400lbs more than the max, but it still would kill me off the line regaurdless.... although if u give me .0043 seconds im already 2 cars ahead
