Transmission Temp Gauge

Could someone help me hook this up. It only came with wires and no sensor. Anyone with this know how to do it? Is there a wire to connect to already on then tranny?

Correction, I was told it was only wires but it has a probe a bolt to go through, but I was wondering where on the tranny this bolt would fit and would be by the fluid to get a reading? Who has a trans temp gauge out there? Anyone?

I didn't quite understand your second post...

If your trans temp gauge is electrical, it will need a sender. Senders typically use a 1/8" NPT fitting. I see you have a Tranny Cooler. You can buy a 3/8" (or 1/2" if that's the size of your hosing) connector with the 1/8" NPT fitting from JEGS or SUMMIT RACING to mount the sender unit.

Are you talking about a banjo fitting? They have a big hole for the bolt in the center and allow the fluid to flow through. It would bolt onto the outlet of the trans to the cooler. Not exactly if a banjo fitting will fit you will have to try, otherwise you will have to have a T sensor.

Do you want an easy way or do you want the absolute best temp reading?

Easy way...buy this temp manifold.

http://www.autometer.com/hp/2001_cat...sories/89.html

Part number 2286 or 2287. Tap the outlet of the tranny line.

Here are some pictures of my install.

The other way would be to drop the tranny pan. Find a spot to drill a hole and weld that bong to the hole. Screw in the sender in and connect the wires. Make sure your valve body would clear the bong. The best spot would be the deepest part of the pan.

Something you can do if you are going to install a transmission temp gauge is to get a second sending unit and install it in your engine oil pan. Then route both sending units to a single pole double throw switch, and from there to your temp gauge. That way you can monitor both transmission and engine oil temps at the flip of the switch.

Got another question

I just hooked up my gauge.

I have the sender unit wire running to the gauge.
I have a ground coming off the sender to a bolt on the frame.

Inside the car - power is run into a switched power source.
Ground from the gauge piggy backed into a ground for another gauge.

I am receiving no signal on the gauge. The needle is not moving.

Any ideas from ?

Your sender is probably not getting a good ground.

Re: Got another question

How did you ground the sendor? Did you buy the temp manifold like I stated in the previous post? You need to ground the temp manifold and in turn grounds the body of the sender.

Make sure you ground your sender and gauge correctly and don't forget you need to power up two wires... one for the gauge and the other for the light....

Thanks, I think I will ry a different ground off the gauge itself. I have the sender grounded also because I did not wled a bung into my transmission case.

I guess I need to determine if the ground is set up right.

Thanks
