painting some things in interior...

i know it's been discussed before but...

i'm thinking tomorrow i'm gonna buy some black spray paint and paint my front speaker grills and the (ash trayish lil area) piece on arm rest of door, and possibly the housing of the door lever. i have clearcoat so i figure i will add a few coats of that on as well. i have a tan interior and want to spice it up a little bit so it doesn't seem like an old man's car as much.

does anyone have any experience doing this? any suggestions or advice? when i picture it, it is seemingly decent looking but then again, you never know. any comments will be appreciated. thanx

Only thing that may cause u a prob in the long run is the arm rest. Since you'd be keeping ure arm or whatnot on it... it will eventually rub. I've had bad experience w/ spraypaint rubbing off. good luck tho... if anyone knows what to add on top of spraypaint, i'd like to know also, thanks in advance

what about instead of black, paint it white. you have a white car so it might look pretty cool. However i forget how dark tan is in maximas, i have black - goes w/ everything

Re: painting some things in interior...

When you get done how about you post some pics of it. I have the dark tan interior and was also looking to change the interior up some. Anyone got any pics of the dk tan interior and a wood grain kit? That's what I want by the end of summer.

update...and soon, more to come!

i went for it today with another org member(Brendan)...i only did one side so far to see how it turned out and if i like it. we finished at night time so didn't get to see it with great light but, it turned out really well imo. i'll try to post pics tomorrow if i can get a hold of a digital camera, some before and afters showing different sides, and hopefully finishing it all up. so far i painted: housing to door lever, speaker grill on door(my favorite part), and the border of the vent on the passenger side. all black of course, looks really good in contrast to the tan and brown interior.

so again, i'll try to get pics asap...just figured i'd share this with people. i'm really nervous about it getting scratched or anything so i guess i'll have to enforce some more rules in the max...all for the sake of it looking good to me! yes

took pictures...

i'm not sure if anyone really cares, but i took pictures today of what i did. i still might do the little almost ash tray pieces in the door(arm rest area) but am not sure yet. any opinions? please no flames. maybe i should have just left it but i needed a change and something to do...so here are some pics, not everything showed up. the pics were fuzzy so i only got a couple.

also, just made my cardomain page today. check out pics if you want and let me know what you think. thanx

the pieces on the dash didn't show very well and the pics i had of them were too blurry...any opinions? i might do more and then again, i might get rid of the door handle ones...have to think about it. i really like how the speaker grills came out.

nice i like the way that looks , i agree with painting the door handles and window switches too , i think it would give it a better look with more black and tan contrast but not too much

but just a thought , still looks nice

I didn't sand anything, I just cleaned it off really well before painting and it came out fine. i think sanding is normally for surfaces that are rough and/or surfaces that paint won't hold well to, but in this case everything was fine. hope that answers your question. ~jeff

sometimes you need to sand things down so the paint doesnt bubble, and so it holds right. But you can just use regular spray paint for many things. Just don't get cheap spray paint, and you can spray a gloss finish after a coat or two of spray paint. Make sure to follow diretions on the can of spray paint in order to do this. There are other ways to paint things, but this is one.

An Idea...

I would recommend you use a primer that allows the paint to bend without any chance of cracking. I am not sure what exactly the name of the product is but I know you can find just about anywhere. This will really make sure your paint stays on the plastic without any worries. Good luck and be sure to take some snap shots of the finished product!

when brendan and i messed up once or twice, we used nail polish remover and the stuff came right off. however i'm not sure if it will come off after it's been on there for a while. the good thing about this is, if you hate it, you could always order the parts from one of the dealerships we get discounts at and they're not too expensive.

what about the door handles inside the car? they prob should have been sanded right? They came out a bit bubbly, and my rear view mirror came out bad, that needed to be sanded too.
