I think this might have been in the FAQ's, if not that- im definately sure it has been brought up MANY times...If you have an aftermarket Y-pipe, you will pass inspections as long as the car is warmed up (as well as the cat) and when it is heated, it functions properly (better)....so you WILL pass inspections as long as the car has been driven for a while....

It still may pass, but something is different.

I don't know about that. I installed my Budget Y-pipe yesterday, and with my car fully warmed up, the rear exhaust smells "stronger"
It still may pass, but something is different.

you think it's got something to do with the y-pipe? i just don't like the sound at all. i just have y-ypie and muffler with resonator taken out.

They are technicaly illigal since they remove emissions equipment but unless someone crawls under your car and looks and knows that the Maxima came with pre-cats you are fine.
I've had warpspeed and Cattman, and they will both pass emissions in PA. I'm not even sure if my car was warmed up since I dropped it off overnight to get inspected.
In PA we have the stricter emission (in Philadelphia area) and I passed with a large margin left. Do a search on my user name and emissions and you should be able to find the exact numbers that I had with the stock Y-pipe and then the aftermarket Y-pipe.

I don't think the y-pipe has anything to do with your BRAKE and BATTERY LIGHT coming on. The y-pipe is not close to either of them.
Do your brakes feel the same? I think it may be something electrical.
As for the sound, I am still running the stock exhaust, so it is quiet. I have a slight hiss at 5,000 RPM+ which turned out to be the rear exhaust flange where it bolts up to the y-pipe. When the car cools down I am going to remove the y-pipe and check the metal gasket, and re-install it.
Good Luck.
