Brakes suck?
I have read several posts that talk about how bad the Max's brakes are. Well, they can't be that bad. Driving home from work last night was the usual 1st and 2nd gear for 45 minutes. Then where the highway splits it opens up a little so, as usual, I hit it up to 80. This stretch of road is a long bend, downhill at probably a 15 degree grade. Then, not as usual, I noticed that all the traffic just ahead was dead stopped. I stood on the clutch and break, did not lock them up, and went from 80 to 0 in no time, leaving a good 10 or 15 feet before the car in front of me. I looked in the rear view to see if anyone was going to smack into me because I fully expected no one else to be able to stop like that. Luckily, I had left everyone else way back so there was no one there. So, my point is for anyone reading up on the Max that questions the stock brakes, don't! They are great.

It's only the stock brake pads that suck...
It's not my imagination either...
My friend and I bought our Maxs together...
She noticed the same thing... after several thousands miles... the stopping really sucked...
If you think the stock brakes (pads) are good... try some good aftermarket ones... you won't be disappointed.

the stock pads don't offer the same bite as aftermarket ones. The best bang for the buck are the front pads.. with the Axxis pads, you get less dust, less fade, more bite.. @ only $25.. you can't be that.
Well, the Maxima does have decent brakes. But I would not call them good brakes. I wish I got ABS. Even with moderate pedal pressure, my wheels lock up all the time. It is even embarrasing at times. Stopping force doesn't feel nearly as powerful as brakes on a Camry, but then Toyota makes excellent brakes so it's tough to compare it to Nissan.
I peeked at my front brakepads this morning and man, they look halfway gone already. I have 45k now, but replaced all four at 32k. 13k and the fronts are halfway gone already?? That's nuts! I'm not even that hard on my brakes. Anyways, I will definitely be going with aftermarket performance pads when the stocks wear out (again).

Well I changed my brakes in April when the Stillen openhouse was and my front pads only have 5% left according to the dealer. So I need brakes. Where could you get Axxis pads. Are they really as good as you are talking about. Thanks for your help guys.

how long do the axxis brake pads last?...
I agree
I haven't had a problem stopping in time for anything. I'm sure there's a lot better stuff out there, but the brakes are pretty good for anything like a y-pipe and under. However, as for squeaking, and general annoyances like that, they're horrible hehe.
Try Porterfield's
- Hey guys, I just ordered some Porterfield "P4S" Pads. They're for street/track use, so they should be significantly better than the stockers. I'll be installing them just after Christmas for an upcoming track day. If you're interested, the front set is $89 and the rear set is $69.
Hey you didnt mention that you were in the maxima club. Cause if you had done that you would have saved about 20 bucks a set. I just ordered the fronts earlier today and it was only $69.00. Well at least you know next time.
