I've been driving since I'm 11 years old and all I've driven is STICK SHIFT of course I've driven my moms minivan and my dad's car which both are automatic, but it's until now that I just got the MAX that I'm driving automatic myself, feels HORRIBLE since all my life I've been using shift, but what I need from you all, is some pointers on how to race, you know like on manuals you can down shift, or you can rev... up so you can get a head start things like that, I just hate it when some punk get's next to me and wants to race and I'm not sure what to do since my MAX is an automatic -- sorry if it sounds stupid but hey! I've only driven on manuals what do you want me to do? -- so any pointers will be great...
thanks.
thanks.
you can torque brake or power brake, whatever you call it. from a stop, put your left foot on brake and rev gas with up to about 2k and then you'll have a decent launch. as far as other stuff, some people use 1 and 2 and play with overdrive but i find those don't really matter. you can get Don's VB mod and it'll shift your auto faster if you're willing to pay for it.
i think it was around 600. that might be wrong but that's what i think it was...well worth the money if it increases life of tranny and makes you shift faster.

They do matter, especially when you move the shifter from 1-2-D at the right time to make the needle drop at redline. Its been tested and thats how I run consistent low 15's in the 1/4 mile. Don's VB mod is quick, but I believe it still doesn't allow the needle to drop from redline, just a little short of redline so the peak hp isn't reached.Originally posted by Jepht20

When you say rev gas with up to about 2k you mean the car will be in the D gear right? or is it on the 1 st?Originally posted by Jepht20

also should I use this method 1 > 2 > D only when I redline the car or just anytime? i mean will it hurt the car?
How about the overdrive? is it supposed to stay ON all time or off all time? == What does the overdrive does anyway?
thanks for all your answers.

overdrive just keeps you from shifting into fourth gear and lets you use more of each gear. or am i wrong? lots of people argue not to bother using 1 and 2 and just keep it in drive, but then again, a lot of people believe they do help. read up on what others have to say then try it for yourself and decide what works for you.
