Help!!!!! Here are the facts!

-I have not started my Maxima for 4 days
-It has been really cold in New York City (15-30 degrees f)
-I started the car today, warm it up for 15 minutes before I started driving. 15 minutes later I noticed the electrical system (interior lighting and headlights) dims when i press on my brakes

Is this normal or is it the battery, alternator, or something worse?

Thanks MaxJoey

is it an automatic? It normally clicks. That is is letting up the lock on the shifter. nothing wrong there.

Yes, it's a automatic, I wasn't sure if that was normal since the cars i own before was a corolla and a camry.
Any ideas about the car dimming when you press brake, the only thing i assume is that maybe since it has anti lock brakes, maybe more electrical energy is needed. But it's a guess.

Errr

If your car is dimming when you're using something with low current draw like your brakes (probably 5-15 amps), and your battery/alternator is responsible, you're gonna need a new one =P .. I never heard of someones brake lights dimming the entire car so wait for some more opinions before you go buying new stuff, but personally I think that's where your problem is. Any problems starting it?

The click is normal; mine is like that also. As far as for the dimming, I've never experienced this. I think if you follow ereet's advice, you might get the problem fixed. Good luck!

Nope, the car has no problem starting at all. I probably change the battery before I change the alternator. Thanks for the info.

Battery suggestion..

I recently upgraded to a Optima Yellowtop. The car started a heck of a lot quicker with it, and when the sounds cranked, it can hit around 120dB without dimming. Any higher (140+ wheee) than that and the lights will be flashing all over, but what do you need it that loud for anyway =)

Re: Battery suggestion..

How much does that battery cost? I was thinking getting a battery from pepboys or strauss auto for around 60 bucks.

Thanks
