Pics? Is the TE cluster different somehow? I've never noticed or paid attention.

As far as I know the speedo does retain the mileage. The actual display for the mileage is a chip which you would replace with your chip I believe. Then your mileage data would transfer over to the speedo. But pulling the chip appears to need to be done with great care since its a lCD display on top.
As far as the TI ed speedo I think its just the silver gauge face with the silver gauge rings pre-installed? I will try and snap a pic of it here shortly and post it.

Just confirming facts:

TE speedo is the same as SE speedo (silver color)...GLE/GXE = black faced speedo
Mileage goes with the speedo. IIRC, Nissan can correct the mileage or you can perform surgery.
