Which Fuel Cleaner for a 5th Gen

Hey everyone. I was wondering which fuel cleaner everyone uses in their Maximas. I have 25,000 miles now and haven't used anything except for dry gas durring the winter. Does anyone have any opinions or know which one Nissan uses.

Your Maxima owner's manual recommends against any fuel additives. However, I see BG44K ($20+) fuel system additive (a non-Nissan product) on the parts shelf at Brown's Nissan in Fairfax, VA. I personaly use this product once per year. Search the the threads on the Maxima.Org site and you will also find other recommendations. Chevron Techron is another popular (and less expensive) fuel system additive and available at most auto parts stores. BG products are only for sale at repair shops that carry the BG line of products.

Well I just put in two fuel cleaners at the same time. One of the black bottle STP and the other being the Chevron. Both in at the same time and filled up and saw my gas mileage go from 22.5mpg to 30.5mpg. And this was all 100% highway driving from DC to Birmingham.

you think the acid knows what to clean and what not to clean, it will eat your fuel injectors and you'll have to replace them a lot sooner.

i am not putting any of that sh*t in my car

BG44k is without a doubt the best fuel system cleaner. It'll get rid of everything, but I would only recommend using it every 25-30k.

Here's something to think about.

If one uses Chevron w/ Techron gas for all of the vehicle's life, would an aftermarket cleaner still be needed?

Brown's is where I get my 2k serviced at, I deal with Matthew in service, he is a cool dude. You should meet up with all the DC guys soon. I use that cleaner BG44K too, good stuff.

First off, you would think to be more concerned with the so called "acid" eating my rubber/plastic fuel lines before eating the metal. So your statement is invalid.

My answer to this is no. Here's my experience.

I used to have a GMC Syclone which only took premium. Unfortunately, I had to rebuild the motor...twice (first turbo vehicle).

After regular feedings of Amoco Ultimate, with the occasional 100 octane fill up at 76, I have to say, when I had the intake manifold off and saw the intake ports on the manifold and the block, you could eat off of them!!! Anything intake related that the gas touched was MINT.

That sealed the deal, premium for the babies.
