Chick Cars...........
Chick Cars...........
Ok, here's an interesting thing/game (I guess you can say) came about the other day while going to a concert with my friend Erica. While we were driving on the highway, we got on the topic of "Chick cars." The conversation went something like this:
Erica: A lot of chick cars on the road today......
Me: *driving* oh?? Like that Toyota Celica over there?
Erica: Yep, chick car.
Erica: Volkswagen Jetta
Me: Chick car!
Erica: Of course, I drive that!
Me:
Erica: Mitsubishi Eclipse
Me: Chick Car!
Erica: Saturns
Us: Chick Car!
Me: Chevy Cavalier
Erica: Chick Car!
Erica: Hyundai Tiburon

Ya get the idea. During the game, we started running out of those popular models, so (w/o you guys flaming me or her for our opinions) we started bringing up other cars, like Ford Taurus's, Camry's, 2-door coupe Accords (don't ask) etc. I think the Integra we agreed was a "toss-up" since the ricer's mod them, and my last ex drove a 95 LS. The Taurus and Camry were more "wives" cars so to speak.
Anyways, while thinking it over today, I realized and saw this for more than a couple of years now, I've seen alot of women (mostly wives from what I'm guessing?) driving 2000-2002 Maxima SE's. At least where I'm from, that is. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I know there's a few women here that post in the forum, but I now I KNOW I really need to get my **** in gear, sell my 2001 Altima SE, and if it wasn't for the constant layoffs and uncertain job stability, get what I was suppose to get 2 years ago!!!

I work at QFC and i always greet and talk with fellow maxima drivers ("my max is right over there" -they think, whats a max, ohhh! max, hmmm thats cool). anyway, its funny i know most of the owners of the cars that come to my store (maximas that is) and most of the time, when i first meet someone, its a lady, and im like sweet maxima, shes like oh thanks. then i mention mine, shes like oh well this is my husbands car, i just like to drive it.
that will explain that, but its funny actually, alot of the women really like how powerful they are, not to mention fast (in theyre words, but we all know its true. they really put emphensis on fast).
hope that helps you out a bit.

Around my neck of the woods (LI, NY) it's pretty rare to see a guy driving a 4th or 5th gen Max, mostly you see adult but not old women. Maybe it's the husband's but it's the driver that counts, I guess I would have to call my Max a chick car.

yup, you're absolutely right. i'm from LI as well, and everytime I peak into a max, it's a woman in her 40's. However, I go to school in Boston, and the Maxima demographic is completely different over there...almost exclusively men.

Interesting . . .I got quite a kick out of this stuff. I'm picturing wives hiding in the bushes until their husbands come home w/"THE" car & hoping in when hubby takes a nap on the couch. I'm a "chick" and the 2002 Maxima SE is MINE, my husband drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since we drive both (Maxima -me 90%, Jeep -him 90%), I offered to get an auto, though almost all of my cars have been manual, because he doesn't really like to deal with a stick. He knew my heart wasn't in the offer I guess and I NEEDED the manual and that is what we got. Here is my chick car list (cars I've owned):
Datsun B210
Honda Prelude
GMC Jimmy
Mazda 626
Toyota Supra
Nissan Maxima 2k2 SE
Have I broken some kind of "Chick Car" rule? I did know I was supposed to be buying bugs, jettas . . . .
Here's my list:
Acura Integra (new version only)
Chevy Cavalier
Pontiac Sunfire
Toyota Celica (new version only)
Nissan Altima (old version only)
Nissan Sentra (all older versions except the sqaure box)
Honda Civic (new version and they seem to have taken over the old versions from the guys. Used to be a guy car.)
Toyota Rav4
Honda CRV
Mercedes Kompressor
Grand Am
Mitsubishi Eclipse (new version only. Old version still seems to be all guys. Old version still looks much better.)
The Tiburon seems to attract more guys. I admit that I like the 2003 version. Looks small but aggressive. Unfortunately, it's not expensive enough for me

man all of the cars you all listed i would consider middle ground. that surprises me.
my list of the top chick cars would look something like this:
VW Cabrio
Mazda Miata
VW Beetle
any Mustang convertible
Chrysler Seabring
for the most part, any BMW convertible
Carbio and Miata being my all time, without a doubt, biggest chick cars.

I think chicks like the Toyota Celica as well. We have many lady car groups with Celicas.

What's funny is how some "chicks" describe the Max as fast but they hardly go over the speed limit.
I think the proper term would be "quick" since that's where most people i meet who owns a max tries to describe the feeling they get rolling from a stop.

That's funny... I have a friend who drives a 00 jetta 1.8t, it's chipped, lowered, and on some 17" Mille Miglia Evo5's. It looks pretty sweet... FOR A CHICK CAR!! I remember he thought I was talking about him when I put this quote in my AIM profile I heard from someone on the ORG: "alot of chicks drive jettas, because they are cute cars, this one gay guy at school drives one too. ever since he got his, everyone stopped driving theirs. its a good car, just not for a man. look on the bright side, you can say its european."
Go back a few years and add the Fiero to the list. Nissan Pulsar was another one. V6 F-bodies, Suzuki Sidekick/GMC Tracker, Cadillac Escalade (always see chicks driving those). The Miata is an interesting one, kinda a chick car but also a great autoX car (cheap, handles great, easily modded, reliability)--depends on whose driving.

gosh fella's we gals just like to sit in our cars and look hot (for you men of course)! we can't be bothered with knowing anything beyond how our outfit and nails coordinate with the color of our car, teeeee heeeeeee.

my point was, it amazes me how "quick" and "fast" are easily interchanged when describing a vehicle's performance. this applies to a lot of people.

I was mostly kidding, I hear what you are saying. Some of the other posts I do find a little annoying. There are plenty of women who don't buy a car based on how "cute" or "hot" it is (or how cute or hot they'll look in them). Most of my friends (25-35 yr old) researched before buying their cars and went with the best car for their $ as well as trying to get something fun/hot. I know plenty of guys who've purchased sh#T because they thought it looked cool and are clueless about engine, maintenance, ratings or anything else, ya know? For men and women, a "hot" ride doesn't mean it's something "hot" inside

The Camry may be a "wives" car most of the time, but a friend of mine has one that would blow your wifes mind. Take a look.

True. My mom, her co-worker and a couple of neighbors of ours had the same thing going. After riding in my car and having a "feel" of its performance/value they decided to get their own.

THe previous owner of my car is a "chick". She got the exact same options I would've. I guess I drive a chick car.

I think color has alot to do with it as well. My friend has an older civic hatchback (about 2 gens back). Its bone stock and its RED -- total chick car looking. I dont think it would be too bad if it was black or silver.

Uhh, did I miss something here? Here's my list of convertable non-chick cars:
-ANYTHING porsche
-Honda S2000
-ANYTHING mercedes-benz (including the kompressor which was cited earlier as a "chick car". The AMG(SLK)32 would KILL everyone on this board, lets not kid ourselves here.
-camaro SS
-BMW M-series / Z (M only) series
And the convertible chick cars:
-mazda miata (self explanitory)
-eclipse
-mustangs
-camaro non-SS
forgive me if i missed a few, but you all get the idea.

I don't know. . .seems to me most drivers I see in convertibles are middle-age men thinking they will attract "chicks".

LOL nah, believe it or not, some of us are young guys who actually push the sport car limit. And some of us dont need cars to get the ladies
Speaking of this, what are you doin later...?
This thread is funny
Someone called the Escalade a chick car. I have never seen a woman drive one. But I do see alot of women driving Explorers and Navigators. While the Slk 32 might be a beast, I have only seen women driving them, same with C36s. And I mostly see women driving M3 convertibles. I dont know about the Jetta being a chick car either. There are some pimped out Jettas around here. Chipped, dropped, rimmed up, you get the idea. I guess it depends on where you live tho. In Baltimore, SUVs and ex cab/police cars dominate the street. Many of the SUVs are driven by 5 ft 2, 110lb women.
