Ways to Improve Gas Mileage?
Ways to Improve Gas Mileage?
My new GLE 2002 Max is almost 2 months old now and I use 93 octane gas. No mods. I only get 295-300 miles to a full tank and I never gun it or anything. I have yet to get over 300 and I completely empty the tank. I drive 30 miles daily in the city. I'm in SA, Texas.
Is there any mods that I can make to get better mileage? Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have pics of body kits?

Are you figuring the #'s based on the trip computer or the old method? If it's from the trip computer don't trust it. It's off by a lot most of the time.
Truth be told, at 300miles/tank that's still within the EPA estimates. Though definitely quite lower than what most people are getting.
How much of a "city" driving is this? Traffic? Stop-go every 2 feet?
Here's something to think about as well, as you rack up some more miles the mileage does get a bit better.

Yes, I'm using the reset on the trip everytime I fill up.

In that case, you have nothing to worry about. I tried this several times already and it comes up to the same result:
1) Fill 'er up.
2) Reset trip computer
3) Start engine, at times the trip registers 250 or so miles
4) Drive around, several miles later it's still the same #
5) Go on the highway for several miles, the # starts creeping up
Long story short, the trip comp isn't as useful as one would wish it to be.

Thanks. I guess the mpg log is working. It says 21.6 mpg
I will use the actual mileage gauge to test it. I will write down the next mileage at fillup and keep a log to see if I am getting more miles that stated by trip log.
Again, thanks

There are 2 things you can do to improve milage:1. Switch to a synthetic engine oil, I personally use AMSOIL 0W-30 but MOBILE 1 and REDLINE are also very good synthetics; 2. Install a free flow air filter such as the AMSOIL 2 Stage Air Filter, it allows excellent air flow while doing an exceptional job keeping dirt out. Once a year you wash it with soap and water re oil and you are good for another year.
Be well!!!!

are you saying
the trip computer isn't registering miles accurately? If your trip computer isn't racking up miles correctly, bring it back to the dealer.
My advice... don't accelerate hard, never let the tac get over 3k rpm, keep the tac as close to 2k rpm as much as possible.
I just got back from a trip to Maine. I drove there A/C on all the way, averaged 79mph and then spent the weekend driving around town. Refilled for the trip back and put in 15 gallons at 386 miles (25.7mpg). My trip back, same conditions/speeds and so far the needle isn't on 1/2 yet and the trip odo is at 255miles. I expect close to 500 this tank because I'm really babying it to see if I can get that much.
I posted a while ago about how hard accelerations reduced my miles per tank by over 100miles. I usually get about 400 miles per tank but when I was "practicing" starting hard off the line, I barely got 320 miles out of that tank.

well i took a 5 hour road trip to my college, and i was getting like 400 miles to the tank avg. like around 75. but rite when i filled up 4 the 1st time in town, it said 250 sumpin, which is bs. i mean i drove halfcity, half highway b4, but not its all city, but 16mpg is pathetic.
You guys have to note that the trip takes samples from different times and averages it to arrive at the numbers that it gives you.
Want proof? Switch the trip to show DTE. Drive around in the city aggressively and you'll notice the #'s go down quite a bit. Now get on the highway and keep your speed constant for a few minutes, the # will go up significantly.

To calculate your gas mileage:
a) Fill up the car. (Top it off, but don't keep trying, 'cause the pump will actually suck gas back out of your tank, via the vapor recovery system. You can thank the EPA for this...) Write down the mileage.
b) Drive until you're close to empty. Fill it up again, and write down the mileage *and* how many gallons of gas you filled up with.
c) Repeat b) several times.
Instance mileage (i.e. how many miles you got this tank) is interesting, but not very useful. Over the period of 5 or 10 tanks, you should see a pattern develop, as well as giving you a better idea of your true gas mileage.

I've got a 2K1 (you know, the one with the lowly 227hp,) and I get 18-20mpg with summer blend oxygenated gas, tooling around the city with my A/C on. My gas mileage goes up to 28-29 on the road, if I'm careful.
You've got 30 more horsepower and another 0.5 liter displacement on me. You don't deserve better fuel mileage.
